Will leased 300/230 battery pack equipped Model S's become 230/160 mile versions

Given the additional cost of $10k & $20k of the 230/300 mile versions of the Model S over the base model I imagine a lot of leases might be in the mix to make the vehicle more "affordable". When these leases are returned, will the battery be brought up to new specs or will the 300/230 mile batteries be de-rated by Tesla to 230/160 respectively.

Cost wise, I think it makes more sense to de-rate the battries and resell/lease the vechicles as 230/160 mile versions rather than replace like battery for like battery.

Thoughts?

Whether to de-rate or update the batteries will depend on battery prices then and how much of a premium it still commands in a pre-owned vehicle. If the cost to return the battery to spec is cheaper than the premium it commands, then it may be worth it to do so. Also keep in mind at some point after the ~70% "end of life" point the range/capacity would likely drop rapidly, so at some point you can't just de-rate the battery and it would truly be end of life.
