Accepting my CPO on Friday (14th) - Suggestions on taking delivery?

I'm sure others will have plenty of suggestions. Here's an oldie but a goodie checklist:

Congrats! I just took delivery of a cpo P85. The vin was 56xx, no auto folding mirrors. I don't know how, but my battery was the B pack. Look under front passenger tire. It's a white sticker on the bottom frame. It will say a or b at the end. I actually got down on the floor during delivery to check and then taught the delivery person about the battery packs. Use the flashlight on your phone, it's hard to see. Word of caution, I just completed the first leg of my first road trip. I had 267 miles when I left. My destination was moline il, 140 miles away. Floored it three times, air on at 72 degrees and averaged 70 miles per hour. When I got there I only had 92 miles left. Mystery drain of 36 miles. So drive like a gramps if you have 200 miles and no way to charge during your trip home. :biggrin:

Bought a CPO S85 one month ago. Look up my forum posts for my review of what Tesla did, namely, an awesome job.

New tires, brakes, UMC and fully cleaned and detailed the car inside and out.

I'm in for a service appointment in a week to finish some items that were incomplete on delivery.
I pushed hard for a delivery date that unfortunately (for Tesla) corresponded to end of quarter, so I was competing with 100+ cars on the lot in Toronto on the last few days of the quarter.

Tesla did all of the safety items as top priority and left a few items (like the missing 85 badge) for a follow up.

I followed the wiki (listed in previous post) and thoroughly reviewed the car a few weeks prior to delivery day, and provided a list to Tesla that took them a few weeks to finish.

It's hard to see a car in a filthy state following trade in, but some owners pretty much walk out of the car and into a new one, with no care for cleaning it. But that's what we did, we requested to see the car the day after I paid the deposit online, and Tesla obliged. They did a quick 1 hour clean up, and we did our review of the car, and then I followed up with an emailed list of things to attend to. Three weeks later, we took delivery and were very very pleased.

We did a 2500 km road trip two days after delivery, and the car was sensational to drive, even with 35000+ miles on it! Don't worry about A/B/D/etc battery, my car is an early VIN too, and the battery has average (for it's mileage and age) degradation, which is to say close to original range, and it is NO issue at all.

My suggestion is to be very thorough. They may want to jump right into the demo of the car. Politely tell them to leave you alone for a bit and go over every bit of the car. Take photos of every single panel. Check online for how to look for repaints and check the car for signs it was repainted, particularly if it was done poorly. Make sure everything gets documented on the delivery punchlist so it can be taken care of.

Hopefully all of that will be an abundance of caution that merely runs into a waste of your time. Then enjoy the drive home! Good luck!

Highly suggest run a CARFAX or AutoCheck yourself, you want to see if there is any record of the car.

++1 on the CarFax. I fully realize there could be issues with the car not reported on CarFax but I don't recommend you buy any used car, Tesla or not, without checking the CarFax. At a minimum it will tell you:

• When the car went into service.
• How many past owners the car has had.
• Any accident claims on an insurance policy.

You don't want to buy a used car without checking the CarFax only to find out later when you sell it that few are willing to pay the market price of the car due to diminished value associated with a past accident that you did not know about. Even if accident damage was fixed at a Tesla Certified body shop, you should know about it when buying the car as it negatively affects the value of the car if you try to sell it later.

I would also pay $200 to have a pre purchase inspection of the car at a high-end body shop where they will inspect the panels, paint, and signs of accident repairs when the car is up on a lift. I think this is a small price to pay for due diligence when buying a used car that costs ~$60-85K+.

You should be able to ask your Delivery Specialist for a copy of the carfax. I think Tesla runs them, and has them available (that was the case for my CPO, at least). I asked asked for a verbal description of prior service work on the car, since they're not permitted to give you a copy of the service records apparently.

Inspect in broad daylight if you can, if the sun is going down and not enough light bring a good LED flashlight. Check the paint the best you can... check corner of b and c pillars for excessive wear... check tire wear, esp in the back

Glad to hear it! Thankfully, minor rash can normally be fixed at low cost. I know someone locally that rashes the gray 21" rims and paid $50 to fix it.

Congrats!! Really happy to hear you had a great CPO purchase experience. I know I'm not suppose to, but I'm going to dream what Tesla will surprise me during my CPO delivery.

I'd be ecstatic if Tesla surprised me with my car! But Ian happy to hear (some) others are having better experiences.
