Hyatt event, chargers being installed

Up until now we've heard they were considering it, but they waited (reasonably enough) until this event to announce they will definitely put in some charging stations.

These reports also touch upon some interesting points. Yes, the Roadster has driven this distance on a single charge before, but it was mostly downhill. Making it on the uphill journey would have been problematic. Most people don't want to go on a "problematic" road trip, so having chargers along the route is more important than engaging in a some kind of stunt.

The Chronicle article also touches on a subject that interests me a lot, which is the standardization of charging stations. As far as I know, there has never yet been a truly widespread standard EV charging station. Tesla are doing what they can to try and bring that about, but I'm afraid it won't happen unless other companies sign on.

Oh, and there's this amusing bit. . .

For those people interested: I did some research yesterday on the state of the Hyatt charger in Sacramento.

Once or twice a month I have to be in Sacramento about 2 or 3 blocks from the Hyatt. I thought it would be great to be able to drive the Roadster there - but as it is a 150 mile drive, I would need charging.

After calls to the Hyatt, as well as the garage they use for valet parking, I realized that no one has any clue about a Tesla charger there. I contacted Tesla.

Tesla said that the HPCs at the Hyatt were only temporary and got removed after the San Francisco to Tahoe trip. However, they are now hoping to reestablish the Hyatt relationship now that the HPC manufacturing has reached a steady state.

Graham: If you have an MC240 you might try bringing that along. I believe there's a 14-50 receptacle in the Hyatt parking garage where the Tesla HPC used to be.
