Model S 70D spent 7 days in production and is now back again in queue?

That's normal, there's no status message for "done with production". The next message you'll see is something like "In transit" or "waiting for transit"

I tried reaching my delivery specialist and couldn't get a hold of him yet. They seem pretty overloaded these days at Tesla Montreal. I guess I can't blame them but it is a bit frustrating.

Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

It seems to be a bug and that the car actually finished production?

It feels weird to me that such a technologically advanced company seems to be having such trouble keeping track of production/delivery status... what with the state of the art production line and all.

There are a number of reasons this can happen (I worked in Mercedes assembly plant for many years) -

1. Body got built and was painted, but paint was not perfect; so the body is sanded down and sent back for repaint. This can happen more than once (unusual but possible).
2. Body built and painted, but there is a parts shortage; waiting on supplier.
3. Vehicle assembled, but there is something that does not pass QA. At MB plant, I have seen vehicles held due to bad seats (replaced), water leakage around windshield (pull and re-install), bad wiring harness somewhere that prevents an accessory from working - this can trigger a complete rebuild of the car; a part has a cosmetic defect (scratch, smudge, dent); vehicle does not pass dyno test (noisy gearbox), etc. etc.

Normally customers don't get much insight into this process because the OEM is usually quite good and finding these things and fixing them, but it does take time. The more content a car has, the more there is to go wrong with parts and the process, so high-end vehicles are more often subject to such delays. The OEM knows the customer expects perfection and wants to give it to them. This is the risk of giving customers such a real-time view of manufacturing - they (the customer)can start to worry about things that every OEM takes care of as a matter of normal business.

Again, this happens to most of us. It typically means production is done and it has moved out to the lot at the factory. My DS looked at mine as moved back to that status for a few days and it was sitting in the lot waiting. Eventually got lucky and it got put on a truck to meet delivery time but they go on trains typically from here then your status changes, either way.

Doubt that it was an issue as would remain in production status through most of those.

Did you get your car yet? How long did your delivery take? My car just moved to "in transit" and I am anxious to know how long I can expect it to take until delivery? ;-)

My 70D took a lot longer in production as I ordered mine on June 13th... there was something cached by the final Quality checks process that needed to get fixed.
