Mirrors don't tilt down when going in reverse

Have you set the mirrors how you want them while in reverse? If not I don't think they will tilt down.

point1 is correct. You have to put the car in reverse with your foot on the brake and set your mirrors. The car should as you to save this profile.

Note that after a firmware upgrade they can lose their setting. I've had this happen once in two years, and I guess about ten upgrades. Some forum members have it happen more frequently.

Yep the car seems to forget that setting sometimes. Just put it in reverse and manually tilt them down and it should work again from there on.

So many people ask this question over and over. It's well-documented in the user manual, which is available in the car and on teslamotors.com (this version is a PDF that is searchable.) This is not sarcastic, but, I don't know how Tesla can make it more intuitive? Maybe the problem is that all other car manufacturers simply tilt the curb-side mirror down and you can't customize their exact positions and the street-side mirror never does anything. People get used to that, and have no idea that the Model S is fully-customizable for each driver profile. Although I'm pretty sure every delivery specialist makes sure to mention this when new owners pick up their car. I know they did in 2012 and early 2013.

The problem is that if you haven't spent a few months on the forum, watched the videos, and read the manual before you pick up your car, information overload happens about 10% of the way though. So there's only about a 10% chance of a new owner catching that. A better way would be for the DS to have the new owner set the mirrors as part of the delivery. They probably wouldn't be perfect the first time, but having done it, they would have a much better chance of remembering.

In the Seattle delivery center, when we park a car up front for delivery, we set the rear view mirrors to tilt down in Reverse. Of course they may not go exactly where the new owner wants them, but we figure they will easily adjust them when they see the mirror tilt.

Probably more than half don't, but some of them already tilt when I get them. I don't know if the factory setting is random, or if a factory, transport or service person set them along the way. (Sometimes they don't seem to point in a helpful direction).
