Well that's the sort of thing the USA often does when it's throwing its weight around against a smaller country, e.g. Canada, but don't you think it's rather more grown-up to do things properly?

If the WTO process isn't effective then you can lay in all the countervailing duties you want, but they'll hurt US consumers just as much as they hurt China.

Gee seems to be the same thinh (sic) over & over .......
    It's time for some action:

It's as simple, just mirror the tariffs & taxes that China is putting on American goods & services.

That would get their attention ...... not filing a complaint.

    JP's latest: http://www.altenergystocks.com/archi...m_costs_1.html

It's also easy to see how EV manufacturers like Tesla Motors (TSLA) can talk about paying $250 per kWh for commodity grade cells, charge $500 per kWh for battery pack upgrades on the Model S and bury the costs of their TMS, BMS and PCS in the price of their products without fully or fairly disclosing the true economic cost of electric drive and the path those all-in costs are likely to follow in the reasonably foreseeable future.
I'm sick to death of happy talk news reports about how automotive and utility grade lithium-ion battery systems will cost $250 per kWh a decade from now.
There's so many falsehoods in the article:
    1) Testla never talks about what they pay for their battery cells.
    2) Tesla is selling battery upgrades for $450/kWh, not $500, and that includes any necessary upgrades in support systems.
    3) Lux's numbers exclude transportation. Now, why would they do that? It wouldn't be because they need to ship the oil from the Middle East half way around the world, would it?
    4) Jeez, I tire of shooting fish in JP's barrel of oil.

I would reply to a post or two but I do not do "Face"....whatever_it's called.
I replied, I like the same old arguments about using coal, and using rare earths- I just debunk them

Even with the dirtiest coal plant it's still better than many cars out there and there was a guy harping about rare earths so I threw back at him the precious metals in is catalytic convertor and how Tesla and many others do not use rare earths, cited Nick Butcher's study and that I didn't hear much complaining when the Sony walkman came out.

I have to stop reading the comments at the Free Press site, they have to be some of the most uneducated and hate filled of any EV-related articles that I read.

I'm putting this one in the gibberish thread since Lutz and Leno use the range anxiety nonsense to promote VIA Motors new plug in hybrids and bash EV's, while constantly referencing the fact that you'll rarely ever need gasoline. VIDEO: Via Motors VTRUX roll into Jay Leno’s Garage | ChargedEVs

I've given up arguing with people over environmental issues. You'll never change their mind, even with facts. So I just throw them a curve ball. I tell them they didn't have to justify their Hummer (or whatever they drive) to anyone before buying it. Likewise, I have no interest in justifying my purchase to them. I like my Leaf just how it is, and environmental benefits are simply a bonus that played absolutely no part of my purchase decision.

They are usually quite dumbfounded by that. After all, in their minds nobody would dare drive a Leaf or a Prius because they thought it was a cool car. No, surely we must really want to drive a big gas guzzling SUV but we give that up and drive a green car because we care so deeply about the environment and all. And since they feel they can discredit the environmental benefits then they can make you look stupid. But when they find out that I like electric cars because I think they are cool, it is pretty hard for them to argue with that.

That is where Tesla comes in.. It is pretty hard for anyone to deny that the Model S is an awesome car. Even people who don't like the Leaf or the Volt will find it hard to fault the Model S. So it is pretty easy to say you wanted a Model S just because it is the coolest car on the planet, no need to justify it with environmental facts.

In fact, if the auto-makers know what is good for them, they'll follow Tesla's example. I think the real strategy to win over the public to EVs will be with performance! One one great thing about EVs is that it is easy to make a performance car that is still very efficient. I am willing to bet that in 5 years most of the EVs on the road will probably out-perform the average ICE car, which will draw people in for the sheer thrill.

I think this is exactly what Elon was trying to say at the October reveal -- he set out to make the best car on the planet, and only EV technology could make that happen. This is where the Model S is such a huge game-changer: it's a great car. Period. Oh, and it's cheaper to operate. Oh, and it pollutes less. But the lead has to be, "what a great car!"

And that's my biggest concern: There is no other company wanting or trying to deliver this. Tesla is thus a target and seemingly insignificant missteps might cost us another decade or two before we see something like it again.

    Examples of "seemingly insignificant missteps":
    - the 40 kWh supercharger issue
    - console
    - fit and finish interior
    - fit and finish exterior

Some of these have led to canceled reservations, and might be an indicator of "adoption blockers" for the mainstream market.
