Resolved - Chevrolet "Bolt" name trademark issue

(mod note: see this post for an update saying they will be able to use the Bolt name after all)

Chevy Bolt trademark application suspended by USPTO

Chevrolet's application for trademark for "Bolt" didn't work as there is a Yamaha motorbike with that name.

I respectfully present some new alternatives for the car.

Chevrolet Assault (you know... And Battery)
Chevrolet Glitch
Chevrolet Buzz
Chevrolet Zap
Chevrolet AC50 (50KWh battery)
Chevrolet Short

The Mitsubishi Colt already exists so that could be an issue.

My first car was a Mitsubishi Colt.

Anyway, I don't think Mitsubishi would mind selling that name, for a bit of cash, or a factory in the South East Asia, or both.

Chevrolet failed to get a trademark for "Bolt" - so it will be called somethi...

It was a dumb name anyway. Why not just call it a Volt without a range extender?

Well, it could have become the new Volt, but they just released a newly-designed one. Perhaps it would become the third-generation Volt? I don't think they want to get rid of gasoline range-extension just yet.

I like EV2. It pays some respect to the erstwhile first production car and would act as some atonement for getting rid of it. It would help them claim they have a longer history of doing BEVs.

Or how about this:

The Chevrolet BEVerly.

Would be abbreviated to the Chevy Bevy, or just the Bevvy. (of course, alcohol drinkers in the UK would protest)

You might be on to something. Maybe they should "brand" their electric cars under the Volt banner kinda like Toyota has done with the Prius brand.
