Superchargers in Southern California (location speculation)

i noticed a number of additional so cal sc's that are shown on the teslamotors.com 2015 map and thought there was going to be a lot of permits and building in so cal in the last half of 2015.

someone in the teslamotors.com model s forum disabused of that by nothing the map has not been accurate for the 3 years they'd been following it. towards the end of the year, markers for proposed sc's will move into the next year.

so, that shouldn't stop the speculation on where they will be located, but they may not be coming soon. or maybe they are coming 'soon', but that would be tesla-speak 'soon'.

Noticed Northern California and San Diego have Supercharger speculation threads.
Looking at the Supercharger map there seems to be a lot planned for Southern California as well.
Is there a thread that I am simply missing? If not, lets start one!
There have been a few threads in the past speculating about various sites, some came true, some didn't. So this thread you have started will be the new one.:) I have changed the thread title slightly.

By the way, just because no one has found any new SC sites lately doesn't mean there aren't some coming very soon. Two new sites were recently discovered on the San Francisco Peninsula that were under construction but no one outside of Tesla knew about them. And that's in an area with one of the highest concentration of Tesla owners anywhere. The sites were likely on the Tesla Supercharger map as "coming soon" but the map is so crowded with SC site markers in that area that there is no way to locate the sites accurately.

Thank you! Much appreciated. Here is hoping we get some new Superchargers soon. I love looking at the photos of construction going on around Northern California and San Diego. Its like a more personal version of House Hunters Renovation! :)

Would very much like to see a SC in Temecula to facilitate Palm Springs trips via 79 to 371 without having to hit the Indio SC before heading back, which is a ways out of the way if you are going to Indian Wells or La Quinta. This would also facilitate trips to Idyllwild via the same route. Could top off in Temecula and have enough charge to hit it on the way back.

Temecula would be a great spot. I personally drive to Sony sometimes from the Foothills and would use a SC there.

I keep thinking about where gaps are and comparing them to where freeways meet.

Based only on my driving habits/ limited knowledge here are some places I think a SC would make sense

Diamond Bar or somewhere near there where the 60, 10, 57 and 210 connectors are all a few miles away from each other

LaCanada / Pasadena and / or Sylmar. The drive down the 210 is one I am too close to maximum range from my house to my golf lesson and back.

An SC in Temecula would also be great for travel between the Inland Empire and San Diego. Further, it would benefit San Diego people desiring to visit the resorts in the San Bernardino Mountains. Rancho Cucamonga is a great SC site, but more will be needed.

I will plead guilty to casual charing at the RC SC site. I golf out there all the time and will charge when I head to lunch at Victoria Gardens. I just keep away from the place Friday and Sunday to leave the chargers for the Vegas crowd. Have yet to go there and not have half or more stalls open. If it was busy I would head on home.

I do this every weekend visiting my other home in IW... However on way back I hit cabazon for 10 min as the winds going west are strong .. I just recently started going back over the 371 to SD as I'm liking the CHAdeMO and found quite a few in north county ... I tend to drive fast ..hence the need for quick top offs :)

Fountain Valley is suggested, crediting Cottonwood, in other threads to fill a gap on 405 between SJC and Redondo, yet I've seen no other corroboration. Nevertheless I speculate the best location is 11179 Talbert Ave, 92708-5406. It has Souplantation, Taco Bell, McD, Subway, Starbucks, and a smattering of shops and smaller eateries besides the Costco. An underused corner of the parking lot is next to the PetSmart, and across the side street is an oddly undeveloped acre of land (on Southpark !), so TM has an opportunity to cheaply buy or lease area enough for a Supercharger station.

Can you tell I've scouted? I pass by this area about once a week, and shop at the nearby Fry's, and _used to_ fill at the Costco Gas, so I'll post pics if it happens. Locating Superchargers here would have irony: the sewage station a half mile south hosts our local Hydrogen and CNG filling stations. So we can heckle the FCV drivers, and vice versa.

Temecula would be awesome for San Diego travelers to the desert. Bear in mind that in the meantime, there are a bunch of Chademo stations you can use. I used one once for such a trip and only had to charge for 20 minutes.

another one on the 405?

Yep. Who in their right mind takes the 5?? :)
I know I avoid the 5 for any reason, all because LA county fails to think more than 1 year with traffic on the 5. Orange County I5- great, LA I5 miserable.

I just heard a rumor this weekend from a reliable source that Tesla is in the "permitting process" for a SC in Fountain Valley at the Costco Center on Newhope. If the rumor is true, great guess dauher!

I heard of a possibility of something by the Euclid exit.

Can't imagine where they would place 6-10 charging stations in the Costco Center (maybe next to the Costco gas pumps:biggrin::biggrin:). That lot is packed on the weekends and even at lunch time during the week. I would think ICEing would be a major problem with the limited number of parking spots and the volume of traffic in that goes thru that shopping center. There is some undeveloped land on the opposite side of Newhope and a Starbuck's and some other restaurants no too far away from that location.

Fountain Valley would be a good location, the problem is finding something close to the 405 on Euclid, Brookhurst, or Warner that has enough space to add the charging stations without creating a ICEing hazard.

Would love to see SC in these area

1) Temecula, = maybe by Pechanga Casino. That would be a nice middle ground from Rancho Cucamunga SC and San Diego SC

2) Chino Hill = A good mid point around the 60's Freeway between Downtown LA and and of 60 freeway.

3) Serria Madre or Pasadena = A long the 210 there isn't one

What puzzle me is, you would think at the very minimal if you have a Service Center, you would have a Super Charger on site or near by. There isn't one around Costa Mesa at the moment :(. They do have some HPWC i saw someone mention outside, but that isn't on the TESLA SC list.

Any idea of the Brea Location is a possibility?

Having them at service centers doesn't really help anyone but locals. Design is for long distance driving between cities not in them.

Checkout the Rocklin Service Center with 8 stalls and the Roseville SC with 7 stalls. Both are within miles of each. I think service centers will get SC stalls going forward if they can. The Santa Barbara Service Center will open later this year and it looks like it will have SC stalls according to the TM map.
