Tesla partners with places such as hotels and clubs to install charging points for customers to use.
It seems to be a mutually beneficial relationship.
They're known as "destination chargers". The actually connector is the same HPWC (High Power Wall Connector) you would have at home (not superchargers).

On this thread, can people please post photos or reviews of places they've charged at?

I've been using the charger at Chatswood Westfield in Sydney from time to time.
It's on the roof of the Albert Avenue Car Park, under Willoughby Council's solar panels (and yes, it works at night too).
To get there easily, take the speed ramp that goes straight up the side of the car park.
It's 2h free parking plus a free 3rd hour if you validate your ticket inside Westfield.
Shopping and free charging at the same time is great!

The Tesla connector is under the western end of the solar panels. Here's my car charging:

So, let's have some more posts about other destination chargers!
 
Just thinking about destination charging in Tassie, it would be a wise move to do a deal with:

* RACT Destinations (hotels in Hobart, as well as Strahan, Freycinet and Cradle Mountain - probably the most remote locations) - Tasmanian Destinations
and
* Federal Group (hotels in Hobart x2, Launceston, as well as Saffire Freycinet (certainly would appeal to Tesla's luxury market) - Accommodation | Federal Group

... to have charge spots (even if they are slow chargers) at their hotels.

These locations are all within 300km of Hobart, Launceston and Devonport. RACT has the benefit of being primarily a motoring organisation (like RACV, RACQ etc) as well so might have an interest from that angle as well!

There is a Tesla destination connector at The Good Loaf - Sourdough Bakery & Cafe in Bendigo. Unfortunately it is only set to 15 amps.

The 2nd photo is the basement car park of the RACV Torquay Resort which has two Tesla destination connectors which are set to deliver 240v at 30 amps. Really nice place to stay at the start of The Great Ocean Road.

Very cool...I have my in-laws here for 3 months and my Tesla arriving next week...would very much like to take them on a drop down the great ocean road but assumed it wouldn't be possible from Melbourne...a might stay over may allow this trip to happen...need to work out the distances from Melbourne I guess...

Hi EcoCloudIT, we stayed two nights at the RACV Resort Torquay, which allowed us to leave the resort with 100% go as far as Cape Otway and return to the Resort with comfortable margin in our S 90D, then recharge overnight for the first leg to Euroa on the way back to Sydney. There is a hotel in Portland with destination charging at the Western end of the GOR, so the full length can be done, but at this time it would require staying a night in Torquay, driving the full GOR and staying in Portland to charge overnight. The direct return from Portland to Richmond is probably possible but with a car full of passengers, I think you would have to moderate your speed to stretch the range. The alternative is another night in Torquay before returning to Melbourne.

Ive attached an EVTRIPLANNER Pic assuming a payload - humans and luggage of 850lbs(385 Kgs) and an average speed of 100Km/Hr still only consumes about 72Kw/hrs. Most notably if speed is 100Km/Hr ( same weight) consumption drops to 66Kw/Hr.

Correction: 110Km/Hr is 72Kw/Hr and 100Km/Hr is 66Kw/Hr. Ive used EVTRIPPLANNER.com for the past year very successfully all over Victoria and would fully endorse its accuracy.

Hi Mister T,

Is the Torquay charger point only for staying guests.? I'll be down at Lorne Post boxing day thru new years and we frequently pop up to Torquay on day safari's (shopping generally, as part of the insatiable urge for ladies to keep the retail economy ticking over!).

This wont be an issue if Cumberland have facility for a 16 Amp 'Dribble' power point. You would think one was asking about Brain surgery as to getting a simple Yes/No from a reception desk on accessibility. I had been told by the early team member at Tesla(Richmond) that Mantra in Lorne was going to be a destination 32Amp site but I haven't heard anymore about it. Does anyone know if it went ahead.?

I've got a 70 therefore probably only will have around 56-58Kw/hrs of usable battery (?)....our weight will be a little less...my wife and her parents are feather weights and my son is only 16kg's at the moment...assuming 50kg's of luggage then our total weight will be 302kg's. Also I assume we'd be doing under 100km/h as an average on the great ocean road stretch, often more like 70km/h. Wonder if it will be do-able all the way to Portland with a 70? Another option for me would be to drive to my coast home in Rye (charge fully overnight - 32amp point there) and catch the ferry across to Queens Cliff.

Hi ECIT,

My 60 seems to get about 55kWh of real usable battery, so I'd guess you would be somewhere in the 60-65 kWh range. This is based on an indicated 54.7 kWh used Melbourne to Bairnsdale with 2-3% showing as remaining on arrival.
 
Thanks lennier...nice to know I may expect around an extra 6Kw/hrs of useable energy that I previously thought.

From what I can tell if I go to my coast home in Rye (charge up overnight), catch the Ferry across in the morning to Queenscliff I should then be able to make it is Portland using about 60Kw/hrs....

SO there is somewhere I can charge up overnight in Portland? I assume with around 3-6Kw/hrs left over the expected EVTripplanner.com estimate I should be okay for the obligatory toilet, lunch and site seeing stops one does on the GOR trip?

Nice place to stay? I assume one stays overnight and can then charge? I also assume you can easily get a full charge overnight?

Further clarification: I'll have 4 adults and a child...so would need a unit or I guess 2 rooms.

Hi Keiron, I'm not sure if they would allow non guests to use the facilities, but given they are owned by RACV, it might be worth an ask if they would extend the use to members. I noticed they had a RACV Nissan Leaf parked there which I think they will hire out to people who want to experience an electric vehicle. I also saw that apart from the Tesla destination connectors they had about another 5 parking bays with 5 pin 32amp outlets. Maybe speaking to whoever in the RACV is working on the promotion of electric vehicles might be more fruitful than speaking to the hotel reception?
 
New destination charger in South Australia near Victoria

We have another destination charger in SA. This one is located at “the frames”, which is extraordinary and premium new ultra-luxury accommodation in Renmark, about 250km of autopilot driving from Adelaide (30km from the Victorian border toward Mildura). The Frames is three individual exclusive and private retreats for couples, each with incredible views over the River Murray, and each with a private pool, sauna, and spa. I’ve stayed once before, and now can’t wait to take my 85D for a spin. Their website is www.theframes.com.au, and the property is multi award winning. It’s an incredible experience that I suggest is amongst the finest of it’s type in Australia, and it's fantastic that the owners now support the finest car in Australia.
