He added that he was “incredibly impressed” with Musk and wouldn’t dismiss Tesla’s ability to compete with the traditional automakers.

“Whether I agree with his technology choice or not, [he’s made] a phenomenal effort to move the agenda,” Marchionne said.

“The agenda needs to be moved, and the horrible thing about us [traditional automakers] going ahead and just pursuing our plan is that all these technology disruptors will come back in and make our life incredibly uncomfortable.”
