P85D now comes without dual charger??

I was just informed by the Inside Delivery Specialist that my P85D would come with the single charger and that the dual charger was an after-delivery accessory!!
Also, the Wall charger cannot be ordered as an option with the car.
Tesla made a bunch if changes to the Design Studio in early March and I didn't notice the changes and there is no reference to the changes.
Order date 3/27, anticipated delivery date May 11-17..

That means I will need to spend another $2750 after purchase. I would have preferred to include these expenses in the $125k loan.
What a croak!
Can you believe this? I'm so angry - It is not the cost, it is the principal of changing and swapping what is essentially the brochure of the car and not informing the customer.
Webpage hocus-pocus, Internet sales magic, if this is what the sales and pre-delivery experience is like for the top of the line Tesla what is the service experience like?
I may cancel the car!!
Say it ain't so!!

How did you think you have dual chargers, when you did not order them? Earlier they were in design studio and you could order them. Now they are not. So how come you came to conclusion you had ordered them?

Summary:

Tesla made changes to their production line to optimize (reduce) the combinations of ordered options. This change should reduce the variety of cars and processes that build out the car, and therefore provide faster delivery to you and others who ordered.

New procedures were made available so local service center can install the second "dual" charger. Formerly this was a much more expensive after purchase option, but now the price was dropped by almost half, equivalent to what the cost was built into the car. This provides more flexibility to existing and new owners who may not have a need for dual chargers.

Dual chargers are only necessary to charge on AC 240V J1772 plugs or the HPWC which can feed the 80A needed. Most public charging is <= 40A, so the dual charger option is less often utilized.

Also, Tesla began shipping a CHADEMO DC charge adaptor which reduces again the need for dual chargers.

Make sure to enjoy your time with the car, and remember, these are first world problems. ;-)

Tesla has never included dual chargers as a standard feature. It had always been a $1500 option when ordered with the car, and $3600 to add it to an existing car. The change was it is now only available by the service center adding it to the car for $2000. The HPWC was never included with the car either. The car comes with the UMC and its 120V adapter and 14-50 adapter. You don't need a HPWC if you install a 14-50 outlet in your garage, which is what most people do. If you want a HPWC which is hard wired instead of using an outlet and the UMC, that is $750 and always has been since the price was reduced from $1200.

I am sorry to hear that, with the changes made to the design studio, your ordering process didn't go as expected. Do you feel that you were deceived?

Also, if you are truly worried about including another $2K in the loan, I would question whether buying this car is the best financial decision for you. (I'm still driving a LEAF until we are prepared to pay cash...)

m6bigdog, your anger seems to be the result of you being misinformed about a number of things, not because Tesla did anything wrong.

Dual Chargers have always been optional. You can still get a second charger. The HPWC (wall charger) is available for you to order at any time, before you receive the car or later. It is much less expensive now then when I bought mine in late 2013.

You do not need Dual Chargers to charge your car at home or on the road. They do make home and destination charging somewhat faster, but it's easy to charge your car at home overnight with one charger using 240V/40A. That is the way most Tesla owners do it.

So take a deep breath, calm down, and focus on what an amazing car the Model S is. Or cancel your order and buy a ICE. To me the right choice is obvious. You are welcome to disagree.

The sales process for Tesla is god-awful and Tesla's communications during sales are absoutely terrible. I'm sorry to hear that it's just as bad now as it was when I got my car two years ago. They get away with it because they have literally no competition in the long-distance electric car market.

The service centers are much better, though. They've treated me pretty well. I did have to fight about a couple of items but they were fixed eventually.

+1000. I don't understand the complaint when the OP never ordered the dual chargers in the first place? And OP is in the minority of people who really want dual (I have two MS and both have dual chargers, but generally advise people they aren't that useful anymore). If he/she really wanted/wants them, doesn't seem that big of a deal. OP's real concern here appears to be that the extra $$ are not being rolled into the loan, and that should be easy enough to fix.

From my perspective and those of other owners I know well, the adjectives "god-awful" and "terrible" do not apply.,missed on our experiences. You had a very different experience than we did.

So, first I regret my mistake in thinking that the Dual Charger was included with the 85kW battery.
However, the obvious reason for my Dual Charger mistaken assumption and the real issue you fail to appreciate is that changing the Design Studio with no reference to the updates is nothing more than “bait and switch”.

That is, when I looked at the design Studio in February it had the option for the Chargers: Supercharging included with Dual Chargers and Wall Connector as a cost option and on March 2 they deleted these options. They deleted all references to charging yet the Supercharger is shown as included in the option/pricing list.

Therein lies the problem, How is a customer going to evaluate and know what Tesla is selling if there is no transparency with the updates and changes of the Design Studio, if it is a moving target!!
There is no reference to what was changed, a last updated reference date, No reference to the Dual Charger and Wall Connector no longer being listed as an Option: please order as an Accessary; nothing but there yesterday gone tomorrow.

Also, recognize that the Dual Charger is still described as an "Option" in the order spec, and the wall charger is still discussed as being shipped to the customer before vehicle delivery, yet these are obvious lingering description in the spec and Tesla charging preparation documents do not match up with the change to providing these items as an after-delivery Accessary only.

With that, I anticipate no one purchases a $125k Tesla on their first visit on the Design Studio.
The Process will first be to explore the options, test drive the car, evaluate the car, pricing, value added verses other vehicle options and return to the Design Studio a number of times to explore the options, pricing and reconsider the decision before you plunk down a $2500 no-refundable deposit. You want to make sure the order is accurate as you only have one shot at it only it is a moving target.
So how long does the process take? 2 weeks a month, meanwhile Tesla is busy updating the Design Studio, once or twice, with no consideration for the customer actively reviewing their purchase decision on the Design Studio as the only portal they have for their purchase and no reference to the moving target of previous or upgraded options and pricing.

Now for your sales pitch and I ain’t buying it!!! If you believe adding a second identical 10kW charger to a car in anyway complicates the vehicle build out or adds more than a few seconds to the vehicle assembly you will want to stop drinking the Cool-Aid at the sales meetings. I am closer to the vehicle assemble than you will ever know so don’t try to BS me on that one.
Also, distributing the second charger through the Tesla Store ordering process and having a service tech take the car apart to install the second 10kW charger that is a duplicate of the single 10kW charger installed during vehicle assemble is a huge inefficiency and if you think not I have some swamp land to sell you.

Also, if you think they are now including a CHAdeMO adapter with delivery I would like to know where that is stated as IMHO that is just blowing smoke!!
A seasonable yet disappointed buyer!! maybe!!

m6bigdig: You do realize dual chargers have nothing to do with Supercharging, right?

Where did anyone say they were including CHAdeMO adapters with the car? It might be worth stepping back and reevaluating what you think you were told and what you were actually told.

Not many people order the second charger so likely is more efficient to install it at the service center during final prep.

I am really confused about what is upsetting you so much. The options are still there and you still can order them. Where they are installed shouldn't matter. Might be worth canceling your order if you are upset by something you don't understand.

How is it 'bait and switch' if they move a selectable option? No one is forcing you to buy that option (whether during manufacture or after delivery to be installed at the Service Center). Dual charging was never part of the basic configuration.
