Summary:
Tesla made changes to their production line to optimize (reduce) the combinations of ordered options. This change should reduce the variety of cars and processes that build out the car, and therefore provide faster delivery to you and others who ordered.
New procedures were made available so local service center can install the second "dual" charger. Formerly this was a much more expensive after purchase option, but now the price was dropped by almost half, equivalent to what the cost was built into the car. This provides more flexibility to existing and new owners who may not have a need for dual chargers.
Dual chargers are only necessary to charge on AC 240V J1772 plugs or the HPWC which can feed the 80A needed. Most public charging is <= 40A, so the dual charger option is less often utilized.
Also, Tesla began shipping a CHADEMO DC charge adaptor which reduces again the need for dual chargers.
Make sure to enjoy your time with the car, and remember, these are first world problems. ;-)
So, first I regret my mistake in thinking that the Dual Charger was included with the 85kW battery.
However, the obvious reason for my Dual Charger mistaken assumption and the real issue you fail to appreciate is that changing the Design Studio with no reference to the updates is nothing more than “bait and switch”.
That is, when I looked at the design Studio in February it had the option for the Chargers: Supercharging included with Dual Chargers and Wall Connector as a cost option and on March 2 they deleted these options. They deleted all references to charging yet the Supercharger is shown as included in the option/pricing list.
Therein lies the problem, How is a customer going to evaluate and know what Tesla is selling if there is no transparency with the updates and changes of the Design Studio, if it is a moving target!!
There is no reference to what was changed, a last updated reference date, No reference to the Dual Charger and Wall Connector no longer being listed as an Option: please order as an Accessary; nothing but there yesterday gone tomorrow.
Also, recognize that the Dual Charger is still described as an "Option" in the order spec, and the wall charger is still discussed as being shipped to the customer before vehicle delivery, yet these are obvious lingering description in the spec and Tesla charging preparation documents do not match up with the change to providing these items as an after-delivery Accessary only.
With that, I anticipate no one purchases a $125k Tesla on their first visit on the Design Studio.
The Process will first be to explore the options, test drive the car, evaluate the car, pricing, value added verses other vehicle options and return to the Design Studio a number of times to explore the options, pricing and reconsider the decision before you plunk down a $2500 no-refundable deposit. You want to make sure the order is accurate as you only have one shot at it only it is a moving target.
So how long does the process take? 2 weeks a month, meanwhile Tesla is busy updating the Design Studio, once or twice, with no consideration for the customer actively reviewing their purchase decision on the Design Studio as the only portal they have for their purchase and no reference to the moving target of previous or upgraded options and pricing.
Now for your sales pitch and I ain’t buying it!!! If you believe adding a second identical 10kW charger to a car in anyway complicates the vehicle build out or adds more than a few seconds to the vehicle assembly you will want to stop drinking the Cool-Aid at the sales meetings. I am closer to the vehicle assemble than you will ever know so don’t try to BS me on that one.
Also, distributing the second charger through the Tesla Store ordering process and having a service tech take the car apart to install the second 10kW charger that is a duplicate of the single 10kW charger installed during vehicle assemble is a huge inefficiency and if you think not I have some swamp land to sell you.
Also, if you think they are now including a CHAdeMO adapter with delivery I would like to know where that is stated as IMHO that is just blowing smoke!!
A seasonable yet disappointed buyer!! maybe!!
