I love Dan Neil's writing style. He puts all his nits up front and then buries you in praise for the car, replete with humour and attitude. Bravo!

Hah, that's true. The problem with nostalgia is that it makes my brain rot.
You are right that automated transmissions make many people forget about how forcefully a manual actually can brake merely on the engine.
It just becomes a bit too literal if one forgets about the clutch at the right time...

I just don't look at the comments at most sites anymore. There is so much trolling and FUD and posturing, it is a massive waste of time and heart to even read this stuff, much less respond.

A fantastic business model for newspapers in this day and age could be to charge a small fee to make comments discrete and opt in; and the free edition puts them in your face. I'd spring my wallet in a second.
Perhaps better, a small fee to make a comment. Everyone has an opinion that they want to share.

i didn't even bother reading the whole article. 1/4 of the article, i just clicked the clip of the two cars, P85D and the Bentley. Most of the comments I read on articles are personal preferences...
