No. You can play music from a USB flash drive, but no movies.

So that would be a 'short' movie like under 45 min. :smile:

iPad

I requested this about 2 years ago and again about a week ago. Hopefully it's on their list.

That's the dumbest idea I ever heard, The image would be backwards!!!! :tongue:

Plenty of apps let you mirror the image. Now who looks like the fool here? The guy with the $500 iPhone danging out the back of the car on a bent clothes hanger, or the person thinking the image was reversed?

I use a weight on the iPad cover and let the iPad hang down over the top half of the 17" screen and connect via bluetooth.

A good compromise that I use is to watch something on my iPad with the sound on the car speakers via BT.

Tesla should enable 17inch screen to play videos at least when put in park....

If you mean the car's rear camera, we tried this in 2013 during the return from TesLive with an IPad but the Bluetooth range for the IPad/Tesla connection wasn't stable at that location.

This would be nice however the the resulting data usage would probably bring an end to our 'free' 3G connection.
A compromise to this might be to allow streaming video via BT from another device.... while in park.

We do have USB connections, and last I checked, using USB doesnt count as cellular data usage

Good point. Not only simple but your iPad screen size is bigger then the reversing camera image display.

I use my MacBook and have a car charger that keeps the MacBook charged. Then use Bluetooth to hook up the sound to the car speakers. There's a 550 ms delay in the audio, but using VLC, I can correct that. Bonus if you have a pano roof and it's night time: The pano roof reflects the video very well. You can lie down on your trunk and look upwards at the pano roof to watch your videos.

I wouldn't have thought Bluetooth had enough bandwidth to handle video streaming.

However, the car has Wi-Fi. It could be set up to do video streaming over Wi-Fi only - including from a cell phone mobile hotspot if one wished. That would solve the bandwidth/cost issue while allowing full use of the big screen and sound system.

iPad is definitely the way to go. Inexpensive (relatively) and connecting the audio via bluetooth sounds great.

iPad works. simple enough.
