"The $60 car hacking kit"

The former Tesla employe loves car hacks and was employed just for the purpose to make the Tesla cars harder to hack. Saw some presentation with this guy a while back from Canada.

The model s has a detached design with the Motor Control Unit not directly integrated with the infotainment system or connection to wifi etc. Would be more comfortable riding in a Tesla than an other car. Tesla spends huge amounts on software and computer hardware design. The other car manufactures just buys in software and hardware from 3d party contractors in India or other countries. The software can be hard for the hardware to handle or that the 3d party company has misinterpreted something in the order which can result in various faults.

This device U have linked to attaches to canbus port which has been mandatory in cars since 96, I think. Car hacking a car is not that hard actually. Many cars have no security at all. Just crash the computer/s with many commands and it will go haywire.

This device stresses the fact that car manufacturers need to adress this problem right away.

We need more talented hardware and software engineers in the world. go tell the kids!

There are lots of CAN bus tools out there... somewhat sensationalistic and self promoting to say that CANard connecting CAN bus to Python makes all that much difference.

If you have physical access to the interior of the car to plug into the OBD connector... well, then plugging into this connector vs. that one... there's a great parallel in this cartoon:

If you are already inside the car, why use a sophisticated tool on the OBD port? Why not just cut a brake line, or any of a million other things.
