18650 4ah panasonic, are they real or just a speculation?

For some time there has been rumour, that Panasonic is bringing 4.0 ah 18650 cells. Is there something officially announced or is this just speculation?

No one has yet shipped a 4.0ah 18650, except perhaps in sample quantities. Maybe early next year . . .
I got my hands on this cell last weekend.

I know it's a Chinese cell and it might actually be just 3000mAh, but who knows, it might be real.

The latest is the 3600mAh NCR18650G (no official datasheet, but has been supposedly released already):

The 4000mAh version is rumored to be the NCR18650C, but so far no verified reports of it being released.

The picture in that reddit post is of their 3400 mAh cells (NCR18650B), you can tell by color. Lime green are 3400, dark green are 3100... That second link is interesting but apparently wrapped differently.

Yeah the first one doesn't really show much, although I don't think wrapper color tells the whole story (as the NCR18650PD is also lime green for example). The second one is of a brand that sells protected versions of Panasonic cells (so they wrap it). The test results seem to indicate a higher capacity cell than the 3400mAh ones (keep in mind in the test they cut off at 2.8V so didn't measure the full capacity).

You can compare to the test of the 3400mAh NCR18650B:

Ergh, and here I thought I had the Panasonic cells all figured out...

My desk this morning as I go through the nightmare of slow, slow, slow charging:

(EDIT: I've always pondered the wisdom of the "UltraFire" name... seems like something you wouldn't want to associate with Li cells...)

I have two of the Panasonic 3600 mAh batteries on my desk right now:
3600mAh Panasonic-Orbtronic 18650 protected li-ion rechargeable battery cell

They are slightly better than the 3400 mAh:

I would love to have them in my Roadster, but I think the discharge rates are way too low.

The 3400 mAh batteries seem to be better:
Panasonic 3400mah 18650 battery NCR18650B rechargeable 3.7V

But, still not as high discharge as the cells probably in the Model S.

I forgot which it is, is it:
