Stena Line Ferries offering free onboard charging for EVs

Read this the other day and it slipped my mind to post it (sorry).

Anyway, Stena Line are offering free charging onboard their Irish Sea ferries with plans to roll it out on other routes (English Channel next please :wink

. Irish and Scottish EV drivers please take note!

Can I charge my electric or hybrid car onboard the ship?

Yes onboard the Stena Caledonia, Stena Navigator and Stena HSS Voyager on our Belfast to Stranraer route. Free charging points are available onboard for electric and hybrid vehicles. Simply advise a crew member as you drive onto the ship and we will ensure you are able to access this during your crossing so you are ready to drive off - fully charged!

Cool. I assume this is using a diesel generator.

I wonder how long that Irish Sea trip is and what charging current it available given the "fully charged" claim.

Two of them are diesel powered ships but the HSS uses gas turbines.

Crossing time is about 2 hours.

That is pretty cool. I wish they would have train car ferries here which would do that.

I would love to drive to San Jose, put my car on the train, and have it charged and ready to go when we get to L.A.
