Above story claims they will put it into production, these guys claim not:

Auto Express | Renault's DeZir concept - New design direction previewed by stunning electric concept car.

The styling and technology are set to grace forthcoming Renault sports cars, although bosses have no plans to put the DeZir into production.

    Renault DeZir: 'leccy sex machine

Renault says the DeZir will have a 160km (100m) range before recharging, a process that will take eight hours when juice is applied "using a conventional household plug". If you have the benefit of a 400V three-phase current line, the DeZir can get to an 80 per cent charge in 20 minutes.
    Sounds about right, for once.

    3-phase again.

Nissan now has a level-3 charger that doesn't need 3-ph power. Don't know when it will come to Europe ...

    Renault DeZir

Very hot looking car! Might give Roadster some competition if Renault increased the range to 200.

Why do they even bother with "concept" vehicles when most do not make it to production?

I think many car companies let their designers go wild on the concept cars, then they pick little themes and concepts and integrate them into their production cars. So you might see some subtle details of that car show up in some more practical mainstream future Renault models.

For example, in 1983 Renault made a concept car called the Gabbiano...

5 years later their '19' model has some similarities:

In 1991 they made the 'scenic' concept:

Which later resulted in a less adventurous production model:

Lots more Renault concepts here, many of which inspired later production cars.

Until Tesla came along to slap sense into people, Electric vehicle design suffered badly from the "Concept Look"

Here's one from, ironically, Audi from 2006
