Slowed to 60mph after 20mins since power use so high
Power use dropped to 350 after 10 miles

Arrived at planned hotel at 2:40a with 12 miles range left. Semi trucks totally blocking EV spots. Had to take car off road into field to get to other side of charger post. One HPWC didn't engage. Tried other and it engaged but at 'half' power (40A) so it says 9.5 hours till full charge but checkout is in 7.5 hours (11a) :/

Hotel let me stay in room till 12p as I got last part of battery charged up. Staff asked me many questions and I told them my suggestions for future customers (I apparently was the first person here that really used the chargers). They also have a Clipper Creek style public charger box back there.

Next stop is 208 map miles away. Benson Appliances in Foley, AL
Benson Appliances has several flavors of chargers available including a Tesla HPWC.

Charged to 244 rated range before leaving 1pm. Approx 37F

Low wind. 60mph. 305 wH power use climbed.
Increased to 65mph. Power steady at 335 and then leveled at 305 for bulk of run at 60mph

Got to Benson appliances at 4:33p with 14 rated range remaining.

Greenville, AL Supercharger is 134 miles from here and I'm at 15 range. So far charger is giving 40 miles of range per hour but it's still ramping up I hope. Full charge says 5.5 hours. Going to find food!

Charger was 200V/80A and eventually peaked at 49 mph charge rate so I wasn't able to leave until 8:15p with a rated range of 180 for 134 miles. Hoping that's enough buffer.

37F no wind
60mph / on hwy 39/51
55mph on 287 / avg 343 wH / 31F
65mph on I-65 / avg 365 wH / 27F

Hills. 24F. 86 rated of 60 map.
Lots of uphill. Dropping to 55mph at 83 rated of 58 map / 360 wH -hills!

Landed at Greenville Supercharger at 10:55p with 10 rated range remaining/ 28F

Next supercharger is 101 miles away in Auburn, AL so I'm planning to charge past 185 so I don't have to hobble along as much

Leaving supercharger at 11:55p with 215 range

22F / 70mph / less hills / 415 wH

Landed at Auburn Supercharger at 1:42a with 70 rated range

Leaving Auburn charger at 2:18 with 195 rated range for Decatur charger 114 map miles away. 24F -> 19F

70mph / 375-405 wH

Landed at Decatur, AL Supercharger with 39 rated range at 5:10a

Left charger at 5:25a with 105 range for a little buffer - 15 mins!

Landed at destination around 5:40a. Unloaded car. Plugged in car to wall.

I made it! Phew!

Now, if I run some summaries for everyone about the rated ranges versus map ranges I come up with an approx % drop of real-world in the cold performance of range.

The only other comment I have is, unless you made some detours off the interstate, I don't believe it's 183 miles from Lake Charles SC to Baton Rouge as shown in your table. From your narrative it looks like you showed 183 from Lake Charles to LaPlace (which sounds about right).

Nice data collection, and congratulations on a successful trip.

Living off the land without Superchargers can be quite an adventure and a study in patience.

A few days later and you could have used the freshly opened Baton Rouge Supercharger. Hopefully, it won't be too many months until Slidell, LA and Mobile, AL Superchargers open. After that, trip reports like yours will be the stuff of legend.

You may wish to ask the hotel in La Place to have the DIP switch settings in their HPWC's checked. The HPWC's ship with the DIP's set to 40A charging (50A Breaker). You have to adjust them and cycle power to up the pilot to offer 80A charging (100A Breaker). The installer may not have read the installation manual carefully and missed setting the DIP's. That is a common error.

Yeah of course all of this is out of date now suddenly with the Baton Rouge SC.

I did talk to the La Place Best Western about a lot of things. I suggested concrete curb 'lanes' for the parking spaces maybe to keep the semi trucks out of the spots and told them they needed 100amps for the 80A HPWC etc - they said they were going to call the people that had just installed them to see if they could get them to check the one that wouldn't engage and check lines etc.

When I come back in May I'm sure it'll be much better, warmer, downhill, more SCs to use etc. Hehe.

I bought this car for a reason.

A few friends told me I should just take a different car etc. My answer was that if I want this to be my only car, then I have to live with its operating parameters and just plan it out. I'm so glad I did that. It's been great having it here in Atlanta so far and I can't imagine not having it with me to enjoy every single day!

I can imagine similar 'dilemmas' when gasoline engines were just starting out.

I'll post some images from the trip

Nit picking but I wish there was a Supercharger in Decatur ALABAMA.
Maps suggest one is coming by end of 2016. Just not yet.
