How about a Waze like system for energy useage on segments of road?

I wonder if Tesla could, with driver permission, gather anonymous data about the power needed for specific sections of roads with data about the car, speed and temperature? The idea would be to build up a database of actual driving experiences that could be used to build much more accurate range estimates over time as the DB got bigger.

You could also calculate a route based on energy consumption (not just time or distance)! This would even be useful for ICE cars and trucks!

How about a Waze app for the Tesla as well, or replace the existing Nav with Waze.

When you RTFA you find that the headline is rather misleading:

Energy savings between 25 percent and 51 percent when they took the route that the navigation system said would take the least amount of time. The tradeoff is that the travel distance increased between three percent and 19 percent.
