First self-cleaning car sheds paint, chocolate syrup Looks pretty cool but: "downsides: The finish is sort of flat or matte, not the super shiny look that most car buyers seem to prefer. It's also rough, like fine sandpaper."
There are some very interesting new technologies out there using nanotech for things like this. One of the ones I saw was a completely waterproof fabric (intended for uses like tents, raincoats, etc.)
 
Video guy was annoying, but that's actually pretty cool. He mentions that if you were on a highway and someone threw chocolate syrup at your car, it would slide off from the wind. Wouldn't it just go onto the windshield then? Can a windshield be coated with the same substance?
