.../ the Passat GTE [is] a plug-in hybrid based on the latest Passat which is able to return more than 141mpg, with CO2 emissions of less than 45g/km. /.../ the Passat /.../ powertrain [has] a 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo producing 154bhp paired up to an electric motor and six-speed automatic gearbox /.../ producing a total of 215bhp /.../ That allows for 0-62mph in under eight seconds.
The system also allows /.../ around 31 miles on electric power, with a full charge taking about four hours. A quick charger is available, which can be installed at customers’ houses, and cuts the charging time to just over two hours. /.../ The Passat GTE will be available to order in the UK from June, with first deliveries set for October 2015.
