so im confused i placed my order 8/14/14 and my expected delivery is december and according to the website if i order today it will be delivered december. im a little upset about this and how long its taking for the car to come in.
 
Tesla doesn't make vehicles in the order they receive orders. They tend to batch things up by region. It seems that early in a quarter vehicles are primarily sent to overseas locations. Later in the quarter vehicles are sent to nearer locations. I ordered my first vehicle around the same time as you did, with an estimated delivery of Late October but received it in Late September because I'm relatively close to the factory. Sounds to me like your vehicle has been pushed back to Q4 because you ordered it too late for them to get it to you in Q3. Look at it this way, you didn't end up in the situation I did where I missed the Autopilot sensors by one day.

The reason why Tesla does this is so that they can maximize the number of deliveries (which is when they book the sale) and minimize the amount of inventory they have to carry across the quarter. I'd also suggest that if you're not happy with how long the order is taking that you say something to your Delivery Specialist. They might be able to tell you what's going on.

Your order might also be problematic now since your location says Michigan.

Various factors. Are you paying cash, taking Tesla-partner financing, is it an MS 60, 85, P85+? They are building what appear to be European and Australian/HongKong bound cars in October, then starting some US P85D late in November into December because they will get priority.
 
i just spoke with my tesla rep and he said that i would have delivery late november early december but im still a little confused on why on the website it says december delivery for even the 60k and 85k models, i no it makes no difference at this point just a little upset.

I understand why you are a bit upset. fwiw, in addition to the feedback you've gotten about what typically makes this complicated (scheduling production for various parts of the world, batching similar configurations...), I think the introduction of the "D" versions of the car are adding to the complication.

Adding an AWD option has undoubtably caused some flux in Tesla's order flow, with some existing reservations switching to the D, which is likely opening up some spots for new orders of the original rear wheel drive version of the car (and quite possibly affecting when Tesla decides to batch various regions, and configurations). What's more, it's my observation that since 10/10 when the "D" option was added, NONE of the estimated delivery dates have changed on the website (I've only looked at U.S.), not for any version of the car, AWD, or rear wheel drive, 60, 85, P85. I suspect with the flux "D" created, Tesla has simply decided to not change any of those delivery estimations until the smoke clears so to speak.

fwiw, I agree that it makes sense to check in with your delivery specialist. I don't think it's out of the question that your expected delivery date could have changed (to something sooner).

update: okay I see you spoke to Tesla. if you don't mind sharing, which version of the car is your order?

The law has nothing to due with deliveries. The lawmakers may hate us, but they have yet to stop delivering the cars. There would be holy heck to pay upon preventing a car being registered in the state. Again nothing with the law......

Yes. Then they would be f$%&ing with and restricting interstate commerce and the Feds would have something to say about that. They may be able to stop Tesla from selling in their state but they can't stop you from going to another state and buying it (which is what you are doing, in effect, when you go on the website and purchase it from Tesla in California).

Good grief, I said it might have some impact on how Tesla handles his order. Not that his order would be prevented or that he couldn't register his car. At most Tesla might have to figure out what they need to do to comply with the law, which might delay his delivery.

Good grief, what you said was that his order might be "problematic" because he lives in Michigan. What you implied is that he might have some kind of problem because he lives in Michigan. Now you are clarifying that what you *meant* is that it might have some "impact" on how Tesla handles his order.
