    NYT Roadster sport review

    Behind the Wheel | 2010 Tesla Roadster Sport - Oh-So Quick and Even Carbon-Free - Review - NYTimes.com

There is also a performance mode, but my favorite, valet mode, is known inside the company as the Ferris Bueller Mode, which means a would-be joyrider wouldn’t get far before the vehicle would shut off.

I'd feel I'd not done my job if I didn't quote details with 100% accuracy. Maybe I'm fooling myself that that is practical for a full time reviewer. I don't know, just museing.

I don't think he drove it. You can almost see the Tesla grin when the writer has driven it. The grin was definitely missing here.

I just noticed in that NYT article that the HPC is $1,950. Lower from the original $3,000 price.

I checked on the Tesla Motors website and it was an accurate price. When did this happen? New? If it had been that price back in early 2009 I am sure a lot more people would have purchased it.

My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I seem to recall Elon Musk commenting on the high price of the charger, and that they had plans for a lower priced charger.

Was it in a Town Hall a while back?

Perhaps it occured when the 30A mobile charger price dropped. I'd still like the home unit and would happily swap my mobile unit for a home one if the gap were just $500 now.

The main reason I don't get the current version of the HPC is because it will be obsolete within a year or two. They will be switching all EVs to the J1772 connector. The Model S will use that new standard. There will be a future HPC on the J1772 standard.

I am hopeful that they design a fix for the Tesla Roadster to use J1772 recharging stations.

So I will get a future HPC for my Model S from Tesla. The goal is for that HPC to be used on both of my Teslas.

I was told that the plug change to J1772 would be an easy change.

Zak must have free time if he is skimming the forums these days.
