Norwegians will this year spend around 260 million kroner ($40 million) on Halloween celebrations, according to one of Norway's top business organizations.

Virke, the Enterprise Federation of Norway, represents over 18,300 businesses in Norway.

The organization's director, Bror W. Stende, said to NTB: “Trade has simply created a new season for itself. It has been served to us on a silver platter from American movies, and both children and stores alike have greedily embraced it.”

The average Norwegian is set to spend 50 kroner per adult, or just under 300 kroner per child aged between 4 and 15 years old. And it is families with children who are the most eager to celebrate Halloween. The money is spent on costumes, candy and decorations.

Stende added: “Some families spend more, while others spend less or nothing at all. But it is a fact. It has become far more difficult - especially for families with children - not to relate to Halloween.”

American Halloween has its origins in Celtic Pagan Harvest festivals and other German-Roman harvest festivals.

It is cross pollination of Western Culture. Which gets re-exported throughout the world.

Isolated cultures are dying cultures. Fighting for cultural purity in the Information Age is a Quixotic endeavor.

Mix and match. Go with the flow. Be the water not the rock.

The mind boggles: think of all those Olavettes and Indgridittes shuffling along like Erik the Viking, looting and plundering their innocent neighbors of goodies....

Wait a minute. Haven't we seen this before?
