Analysis from my car
107,701 sticker
-7,500 Federal Credit
-17,500 $1/mile (my normal depreciation number owning similar cars for three year stints)
Yield on a normal trade in for me would be
83,210
-15,000 Tesla's $1k/month
68,210
It looks like Tesla is using their $1/mile and $1K/month formula for my car once the Federal Tax Credit is deducted.
I am considering listing my car for $83K retail. I will not net the 6% Florida Sales Tax credit I would normally get on a trade but this may be the price I pay for upgrading before year three.

If others want to edit their quotes from further down this thread, I'll edit in their analysis here. If you do, please make it a one liner like-
107,701 sticker-7,500-17,500 $1/mile Yield 83,210 -15,000 Tesla's $1/mile 68,210

onesixeight Seattle, Washington
$75,000 for P85+ delivered June 2013 with a $114,000 MSRP.

Like a few others, I just can not resist upgrading. My first was the P85 to the P+ and MS was young enough that I got a dealer in California to effectively allow me to break even (I had early reservation pricing which allowed this). This time it is P+ to PD but at least Tesla has allowed me to keep the car for a year and a half before coming out with a must have upgrade :)

The reason for this post is to encourage others to join me and post their car configuration then update the post with the trade in offer from Tesla's centralized CPO group. I would like to see if they are consistent across the country and to see if we can reverse their formula with enough data points. I'll will make my decision to go trade in or retail sale using Tesla's number plus the 6% I will save in Florida sales tax.

Mine will be-

July 13 delivery P85+
Red/Black/Red Roof Dual Chargers
17K miles now but I told them to quote on 19K miles in December
287 WHr/mile lifetime for what it is worth

I'm waiting for a trade in quote too. I will save 8.75% sales tax in Louisiana on the trade value.

I took delivery on June 23, 2013 - configuration in signature. 13,645 miles but I told them to assume 14,500 for quote purposes.

I believe the one and one formula was used to allow Tesla to sell demos/loaners in an effort to provide some sort of a stocking dealer function. If they use that formula as their retail target for CPO'd vehicles then the wholesale number will be so low that Elon will need to pull out his checkbook for all those resale guarantees :)

That said, it will be very interesting to see just how Tesla structures the whole secondary market now that they have a chance to define it at the very start. Announcing the CPO program BEFORE the PD announcement means someone has been thinking about these things. That is a good sign.

Let's see how the numbers fall. It will become obvious on the first dozen or so quotes.

I agree Lola. I spoke with Tesla on Friday, they told me the quote will take a few days, and my local service center will contact me about the trade. I have not yet placed a new "D" order yet, as I'm not sure I'm going to upgrade (I could also wait for a Model X AWD in a year)... I want to upgrade, but it depends on the numbers, as do most things in life.

I'll get this rolling with a second-hand quote a friend got from Tesla, looking to trade up to P85D:

"$67,900 trade-in for my P 85. It has 16,000 miles on it, was built towards the end of August 13"

It was a demo bought in:

"January ('14) from the showroom floor in Los Angeles for $100,500 with approximately 1500 miles on it"

Yikes, looks like I won't be trading up :/

That's more depreciation than $1,000 month, $1 per mile

2013 fully loaded P85+ with 18.5k miles = $74.5k offer from tesla. That's BS and I should be able to get 95+k on private market for that. Has new drivetrain and battery so it's a good deal at that price.

I think you can't value these cars like ICE vehicles. They should retain far more of their value. I'm never buying another tesla - will only lease as I will always want the latest and greatest every 2-3 years (like an iPhone)...
