My P85+ is here in 5 days, but the wheels, BLEAH!!!

Greetings. I’m excited to join the community!

I bought a white Tesla Model S loaner from the Raleigh Service Center with 4000 miles, because I liked the thought of not waiting, and saving $$. It has absolutely every available option - including ones I didn’t want, such as red seat striping and the rear-facing seats. But maybe I can make my two pre-teens lie length-wise in the back for now.

The only problem: I hate the dark 21” turbine wheels. They look dirty. It’s what I see on lowered Honda Civic Si’s with whale tails, driven by teens whose pants don’t fit. They look like the hubcaps fell off. I know, I’m old, but I like the standard light turbine wheels better. I asked if they could switch the wheels out, but it wasn’t possible.

Does anybody who lives in the Raleigh area want to trade wheels? Let me know.
Then again, in a week or two, I might get used to it.

Can’t wait for delivery!

Search for a local wheel specialist, they are cropping up all over the country due to demand from those very same Kids With Too Much Money in Honda Civic Si's. Am certain they can refinish your wheels to chrome or whatever you wish for less than you could swap.

Hey, Thanks N4HHE for the info - never thought of that.
I called a wheel shop near me, and they quoted $550 to paint my wheels a lighter shade of aluminum.

I'm hoping to trade with someone local, as overnighting wheels cross country is kind of challenging.
But thanks for those who PMed me. I'll keep that in mind - shipping might be cheaper in the long run.

And naturally I ordered mine in white with your same hideous wheels......... that I covet!
The only car I have ever had that did not spew brake dust all over the wheels is my current one with ceramic brakes. Brake dust can make a relatively clean car look like it's overdue for a car wash.
Since ceramics are not an option with the Model S, the next best thing is dark wheels that hide the dust. I think the 21" wheels in grey look fabulous.....but of course that is why they are called options.

Welcome to the club! I also bought a P85+ Inventory car, ALSO with the 21" grey rims... except that I LOVE THEM. My car is blue, so the dark blue and dark wheels make the car look, as my friends have said "Badass".

Anyway, I hope you can find a trade somewhere.

If you don't need the rear seats, there are people looking to buy them. I sold mine for $2000. It's just two big bolts that hold them in, and the buyer would need to have an early car when they were all built to take the rear seats. I don't know what VINs they stopped that at. Also, be aware that there are two metal hoops on the side of the trunk that need to be removed for the buyer (very easy). The only tricky part is the mounting plate on the back of the rear seats where they seats click into. My buyer owns an auto shop, but I don't know how he addressed that part. The parts might be available from Tesla. Anyway, there is a secondary market for the rear seats, just the buyers should know that it's just a little more than bolt-off, bolt-on. A Tesla Service Center should be able to help out, too. Also, be aware that in the donor car, there are two hidden capture nuts behind the panel where the bolts go in -- the buyer would need those too. Oh, also in my case, we swapped back floor carpets, since mine was already cut for the seat bolts, and his wasn't.

Hey HankLloydRight - that's great advice. Never thought about selling them. I always assumed Tesla would credit me the rear-facing seats if I didn't want them, and was disappointed when I found out otherwise.

If anyone around Raleigh, NC, wants some rear-facing seats, let me know - save me from shipping them!)

Tell me about it!!! They *were* giving people a $2500 CREDIT to remove the rear seats of Inventory cars... and they halted that practice ONE WEEK before I bought my car!! ARRGHGH!!! They moved to an "as-is" policy for inventory cars -- NO CHANGES allowed. The only thing you could order, if you wanted, was a parcel shelf for $250, which I did. Of course, a couple of months later, they're now included FOR FREE!! ARRGHHH!

Nonetheless, I love the car. I got a great deal on a P85+ I'd never be able to afford otherwise.
