Volvo plans an EV

But is it real?

What's frustrating here is the complete lack of info about how "real" this car is. Is it a functioning, running prototype? Are there any plans for production? Is there any time frame for when it could be produced? Volvo is silent on these points.

Kinda like how GM was silent on the Volt last January. It's good news though...if they jump on the "range extender" bandwagon plug-ins won't be that far out.

My opinion is that vids that only have something directly to do with Tesla
should be in the Video section. If you think the video belongs in a particular
section or is relevant to a particular thread, you should try to put it there, as
you have here.

The only other thing is if it's easy to embed the vid, you should go ahead an do so.

Some info about this came out today. This a different and simpler (read more sensible) project than the "Re-Charge". That car was a plug-in serial hybrid AWD with wheel motors. This car, the C30 BEV, is all electric FWD with front motor. Perhaps it needs it's own thread, but will sit here for now.

Haven't heard anything out of the wheel motor based projects in a while.

Volvo Promises (Some) Electric Cars in 2011 | Autopia | Wired.com

The Swedish automaker announced today that it is heading into the Detroit auto show with a spiffy electric C30 prototype that delivers 93 miles on a charge. It updates the prototype electric Volvo unveiled in September by giving it a complete interior and a nifty display. Volvo says it will build “at least 50″ electric cars next year and deploy them in a test fleet in 2011.

A redesigned C30 with a 0-60 time of 10.5 second.

There's also a youtube video embedded at the bottom on the link.

"The model cuts no corners when it comes to its performances, providing an under 11 seconds naught to 60 mph acceleration time and a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph)"

Who are they kidding. 11 sec 0-60 is a slug.
