I ordered my Model S last Friday. I was told that the order would be automatically confirmed on 11 Sept. When I go to My Tesla page, there is an option to "Confirm Now".
I have thought about the options and configuration (and made one change) but I don't think I'll change my mind from now on.
I was wondering if there is any advantage in "Confirm Now" such as getting into the production queue sooner? Of course I would like to have my car ASAP and if this could move it up a week, all the better.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I asked exactly this question to my Advisor and he said that it made no difference at all. It will not affect how fast it goes into production.
I was hoping that I would be rewarded by being decisive, but alas, no.

My advisor said the exact opposite. He said that it will get scheduled sooner if you confirm sooner. When I first ordered my dashboard said "Late September" and when I confirmed the next day it said "September" for delivery, so I think it does have an effect.

I've Confirmed my reservation!
We'll see what happens. It would be fantastic if I slipped into September to help them make their numbers since I'm in California and have scheduled Factory pickup. (I do realize that this is a very small chance... but I can hope.)

Good luck mspohr! The chances are probably slim, but seeing as you're doing a factory delivery that gives you a glimmer of hope.

Plan on it not happening: better to be delighted if it does rather than disappointed if it doesn't! There's a world of forums and blogs and videos and a couple marvelous books to keep yourself busy until it does arrive. Welcome to the Wait!

I confirmed yesterday (holiday) and received an email from my "Delivery Experience Specialist" today with information about my reservation (but no date yet).
I think it does help to confirm early... at least the process seems to have started.
BTW, so far this is the best experience I have ever had buying a car (even if I do have to wait for it).

I ordered a model X on-line but wanted a test drive so I made an appointment at the Roseville dealer. Of course, they only had the model S to test drive. My sales representative (Jessica) was the most knowledgeable car sales person I have ever encountered and was able to answer all of my questions clearly and completely. She was also great during the test drive in explaining the car and helping me sort out some confusion with the controls. I have to admire her "white knuckle" skills also as I took a few curves at speed.
Anyway, at the end of the test drive, I decided to buy a model S (and keep my model X reservation for next year) and she, again helped me through the configuration process and made solid recommendations on options. It was easy, clear, painless... even fun.

And car purchases SHOULD be fun!! We're getting this fantastically expensive amazingly complicated/sophisticated object that will be of major importance in our lives. It should be a fun & exciting time, but traditional dealerships have managed to inject so much anxiety and worry into the whole process for so many people. My purchase experience was similar: a fun test drive, no pressure conversation, helpful low-key advice, and DONE.

Then, it's just the anticipation. And the WAITing.... Welcome to that wait, mspohr and Mpowered! :)

Every car I have bought in the past was a difficult experience because I knew that they were lying to me and trying to screw me.
Tesla is a much more refreshing experience.
I am in the queue, now (late November) so am counting the days... it is difficult.

The "confirm now" option is basically the 2 week back out clause. If you confirm immediately the clock to delivery starts. Otherwise things just sit for 2 weeks until it "auto confirms". This is the way they claim the deposit is 100% refundable -- thats only true before you confirm.

I confirmed early and they gave me a "late November" delivery date then a few weeks later moved it to "December". Since it's factory delivery I expect I am getting pushed back by other orders which have shipping time added so they can make their quarterly numbers. I half expect them to push it to Dec 31.
