According to Green Car Congress, VW announced that it will produce the CrossBlue at the Chattanooga, Tennessee plant that currently produces the Passat. The CrossBlue was previously confirmed for US launch as reported by InsideEVs. The total investment is reportedly $900 million to introduce this new model, of which approximately $600 million will be invested in Tennessee. The CrossBlue Concept pictured below will likely be introduced in final production form with its final naming at the Detroit auto show.

This is a 7 seat SUV with styling tailored for the US market. A range of engines will be offered, including a PHEV with approximately 14 miles all-electric range. It is based on the MQB platform, just like the new Passat, new Golf, and new A3. All of those models will be available with the same 1.4 liter TSI PHEV powertrain. The actual powertrains for this vehicle have not been announced, but I would be surprised if the PHEV powertrain is any different than its MQB relatives. Possibly the only significant change will be the availability of an e-AWD setup with a rear electric motor. Unfortunately, it looks like VW will not increase the battery capacity in this vehicle to match the electric range of its smaller and lighter relatives.
