I didn't get any calls about delay. I guess I can still get the car on the 24th.

Oh, they just told me the ship didn't arrive on time (supposed arrive today). Will push back at least 3 or 4 days.

I agree with ekwng that many in the Tesla HK are very green offset by boundless enthusiasm. Despite the inconsistent stories from the delivery specialists, I'm hoping this desire to have an answer and please the customers is maintained by the service department.

My Delivery Specialist let slip last night that while they originally thought next week's launch would be a "genuine" delivery of a few vehicles, that will no longer be the case. He didn't cite the specific reason (he vaguely mentioned shipping and TD issues), but it seems even the Signature vehicles would not be delivered at the end of this month. And that certainly aligns with what ekwng and sonywong heard for their vehicles.
My interpretation is that (1) even the deliveries at the top of DITB's list (i.e. the Signatures) are delayed 1-2 weeks; and (2) the rest of the deliveries will be more "spread out" such that as far as down as me on the list would be delayed 4-6 weeks from the original early September estimate I was given.

I think DITB's estimates are as good as any at the moment. But my fear is that this is only a sign of things to come. That is, there will be further delays. I subsequently found that my Delivery Specialist is pretty much a fresh graduate from university (finished Bachelors' in 2012 and Masters' in 2013). Certainly when he called me to deliver the "bad news" of the delay, I found him very unprepared. He blamed part of the communication problems on Linda and the US team as being "unfamiliar with the Hong Kong situation" but I found it much more pleasant to deal with her than with him. Anyway, all of this doesn't bode well for us for dealing with Tesla going forward.

Maybe Tesla Motors failed to bribe the right officials in TD? Or maybe the opposition bribed them more than Tesla did, to stall approvals?

These officials have way too much power, like so many government offices in HK which seem to care more for their own job than the public "service" they are really supposed to supply. Surely, the safest car ever produced cannot be THAT hard to approve?

Approval in HK governments departments sometimes takes unreasonable long time, but bribing is not the issue here. I firmly believe believe Hong Kong is relatively clean. According to Transparency International, HK is ranked before Japan and the US!

But why do they have to overcomplicate and drag everything into an eternity of waiting and standing in line?

Drivers license test: 9 months wait (for the practical test)

Pleasure license test: 4-6 months wait (for G2 license, up to 15 meters)

HK ID, visa, and the numerous approvals and licenses required for anything and everything in Hong Kong - where does all the general foot dragging come from?

Bureaucracy. Simple as that.

Some of us really should get a part-time job at Tesla HK to straighten them out haha. I believe many of us here are more knowledgeable (about Tesla, the Model S and EVs) than some fresh grad newbies, and certainly VERY passionate. Should get hired straightaway by Tesla HK if you have the time to spare. Consider the pay a compensation for the delays.

Tesla are paying peanuts to the DS, they are getting what they pay for.

ekwng and sonywong - have you had any updates as to why there are delays? If 23rd of July isn't any official delivery event - what will it be, those Sig customers will "Borrow" their cars inside the Kai Tak terminal - then give it back until TD gets their finger out?

If it is really HK TD being silly - why don't TM just say the truth:

The authorities are obstructing the entry of Model S.

Maybe they are afraid it would make things even worse.
