How are the cars produced? Batches or numerical order?

It's a lot more complicated than that and not sequential. Without saying much, I'll just say think about having to account for different homologation packages, options, supply chain, production, logistics, etc that goes into building and getting cars delivered. Waiting is the hardest part, but totally worth it :)

Does anyone know how the cars are produced? Batches of like colors all at one time or
for example, P85+ cars all one one day or what?
I just don't think the cars are just made in numerical order.

Nobody knows for sure. I know they are not produced in VIN order, but somewhat close.

I think they also batch according to geographical region/similar time frames to make shipping easier.

VIN assignments are done sequentially, but after that the build schedule is done in a manner that optimizes component inventories. There will be some batching based on specific components for specific models like RHD cars. Generally speaking, there is no batching of colors through the paint shop.

I think the body color is one of the important parameters in production ordering. When we picked our car on Mon, the Delivery Center had just received a shipment. Don't know how many cars were there, but we saw at least 12 MSes getting ready to be delivered. Two of them were white, the others were uniformly black. No other colors at all that we could see.

@meteoritehunter - I have a countdown app on my iPhone until the day and second that the car arrives. My wife is limiting me to 5 Tesla YouTube videos per day and has instructed me not to say the word Tesla at any dinner table. Being 18 days out, the wait is agonizing. What is amazing about TM is that every customer is treated the same. We all pay the same price; we all go through the same wait; and if you have any celebrity, it does not get your car delivered any faster. Remember, water boils at 212 degrees, and nothing is going to change the laws of physics. You can try to analyze and second guess when your car will arrive, but your Delivery Specialist will give you a pretty accurate estimated time of arrival. Until then, lay in bed and count Model S's instead of sheep. Believe me, it works.

I have my dream car sitting in my drive right now:) it is amazing, not even 48 hours yet and im driving to Las Vegas from Tucson today to road test and hit some superchargers! I love every second of driving it. Had multiple cars following me takkng photos yesterday. Tucson has very few Teslas, Ive only ever seen 2 here.

Hope this doesn't discourage you, but the pleasant excitement never goes away. Best Car In The World. Working on 2 years, 50,000 miles. Same old having to put up with this advanced technology, the smooth quiet ride, the free power, day after day after day. No wonder we're the way we are.

We go to Scottsdale a couple times a year: Hope to see you around. NapaBill heads out to Tucson seems like several times a year. He drives a brown Model S. Practice your Tesla Nod. Also, practice hitting the high beams at approaching BadAss DRLs (don't mistake any of those Lexus or Audi copycats), without hitting the cruise control!

Congratulations!

Meteoritehunter, There are a few in Tucson, I'd love to know how many though, I've seen only 6 on the road here in Tucson. I've seen most of them in the last 6 weeks, and the blue one I may have seen twice: once on a transporter and once at the NW Costco. 1 Sig Red (a friend's car that he's had since the beginning) 1 Red, 1 White, 1 Silver and 2 Blues I pick my Red S85 up Saturday - and I know of one other delivery this month to Tucson (also Red). My DS told me there were several delivered last month to Tucson and a few more this month. So now we need that Supercharger between here and Phoenix so that we can go up there and drive around without regard to the charge and make it home- As it stands now- you can get to Phoenix from Tucson, but if you want to do anything there, you may have to recharge to make it home- A Supercharger near I-10 between here and Phoenix would be a good thing- Also- when they start the path East on I-10 there probably needs to be one somewhere between Tucson and New-Mexico- since there is a lot of windy road to travel along that route.

Hope your trip to Vegas goes well- please report back
