What about TEG and it's independant entity.

I know this is the teslamotorsclub but maybe as Tesla grows so should we. They have got a product sold and as the new TEG ESS batteries appear in other cars I'm sure we will want to talk about them.

I also vote for using Pay Pal to help this site out.

Elon would be proud.

Really would be nice to figure out a way to filter out the spam… especially the picture porn spam that shows up in the off topic section daily. Most of the time, I just look at the 10 most recent posts page. It’s a bit disconcerting to be greeted with a page full of hard core porn when you’re not expecting it.

Would it be possible to just not include the articles posted in the Off-topic | Off-topc not be included when selecting to view the last 10 posts?

Or more specifically maybe the Off Topic posts can appear in the 10 most recent but the pictures do not appear.*

I too have had a free moment at work and checked the TMC's 10 Most Recent only to recognize the salacious Off Topic header and the upcoming slow download of flesh. Quickly scrolling down avoids the inappropriate wall of skin in a group of coworkers.

I just want to know how they can get such a big image through. I can't manage anything bigger than my tiny 280 KB pics.

Just for the record, I do not like this new format. To much sections, groups, etc, yet another example of form over function.

You had a great opportunity of really starting a club, a comunity. It started very well. The first misstep were all those new sections. So much of them that almost any post could be posted in at least three different sections. Instead of thinking about content, users were forced into thinking about where to put it.

Any new great thing must start small and be centered about content. The form must only follow as much as it is necessary to support the content to grow. Now the club dissolved in electric performance. It got mixed with everything and club is gone.

Sad.

Warped one,
I appreciate your brutal honesty and I will take your suggestions into consideration(although it came out as more of a rant then actually trying to improve what my hard work has gone into.).
Let me explain my pov.I didn't dissolve teslamotorsclub, i mixed it into one site to make it easier(function over form) for the user to use both websites and not have to separate user names. Also there are people who are interested in things other then tesla motors that need to be covered and who need a place to be. If you have a list of categories that would suffice that you think would work better then what i have then say, it. So far everyones left most of the work to me so if you have any "specific" suggestions please make them. I do not appreciate your lack of appreciation and understanding for exactly how many hours I have put into doing this.
If you would like to suggest a new format for the forums, let me know like this:
Forum: Tesla motors
Subforum : etc etc.
Just to add, i don't know why you didn't mention this before. Just before we got hacked, the tmc board had 3 battery forums yet i heard no complaints. There are hardly any new forums on this site. There is brammo and then a seperate news section which I may combine. Also there is one more offtopic section. REason for combining the forums was also because they overlapped eachother
Thanks

Sorry, I guess my post really sounded like a rant. I am a software developer, so a can imagine the amount of work and time you are pouring into these forums. But as hard as it sounds, a great amount of work does not necessary result in a great and successful site or forum. One other big thing is focus. Without it unfortunately, great amount of work will only go to waste.

The original site had focus. It wasn't about electric cars. It was about Tesla and Tesla Roadster like there are BMW forums, Lotus forums, Honda forums etc. It was a place where people fascinated by what Tesla had done and is doing could easily met, speculate and inform each other. It is fine to have sections about other more general topics as long those sections do not prevail over the main sections. The original configuration of Tesla Motors Club was generally ok. Anyone coming there anew could easily figure out what it was all about and how and where to navigate.

Then there was the other forum - Electric performance, that wasn't about any particular company or car, it was about technology. Joining both of them together made the club disappear because the technology is a higher concept then one particular product or company. It became just another section amongst many.

My (constructive?) suggestions are thus:

1. The club

Decide wether or not you will keep this "club thing". If yes, then it needs - no, demands - its own domain. www.teslamotorsclub.com was great. Three subfolders deep into electricperformance.com makes it look unimportant, an afterthought. Try to come up with distinctive graphics. Again, original graphics was great. The current graphics is generic - doesn't mean anything, no soul, just "yet another forum". If you won't do it, sooner or later someone else will and all Tesla affectionados will go there.

2. The Sections

Keep them to minimum and not more than 2 or 3 levels deep. Do not try too hard to envision what sections will be needed. Start with a few and add them when necessity is evident.

3. The Users

I understand you saw same people being registered twice and tried to ease the usage of the forums for them. But not all users have same interests and passions. Try to understand this: Cars trigger emotional response and Tesla Roadster triggered a very strong one. A club of enthusiast was about to form this or the other way. Your original site came in just about the right time and in the right form. It had potential to grow around Tesla Motors enthusiasts that are not necessarily technically oriented. I suspect users coming from Electric Performance were a bit different. They were a technology people that also found interest in the Roadster. Those two groups are not to be seen as one.

4. The Forum

I would try to organize it like a forum made out of two subforums:
- Tesla Motors Club
- Electric Performance

There would be three domains:
- one for the top forum containing the topmost sections from both subforums
- one for tesla motors club
- one for electric performance

I would give them distinctive graphics. The Club would only have sections directed toward Tesla Motors, lets say:
- The Company
- The Roadster
- The Future (WhiteStar, BlueStar, ...)

Anything not about Tesla would go to Electric Performance forum (other companies, future technologies, offtopic, etc).

Why I hadn't complained before? I usually do not speak on first thing that bothers me. I give time to see where things are really going. I enjoyed the old forum, but here I feel lost. I feel like I lost a great place to share ideas and excitement.

Dean, I feel the same way at present, but I think we shoudl give it a little time to see how people actually navigate. I'd sure hate to see participation drop in the meantime.

Warped One,
Let me begin by saying thankyou for giving the site constructive criticizim. I agree with you and becuase of that I am going to change it.
Second, I want to mention that when a site is first put up, don't draw conclusion right away, for example we are keeping www.teslamotorsclub.com as a domain name but i just need a couple more hours to change servers so you decided already that it wasn't going to happen. It will be parked in electricperformance.com so as you navigate teslamotrsclub.com you'll see the beginning of the url doesn't change. You'll see how it works yourself.
Here are the two formats I am contemplating and i need everyones advice on it.
1. Basic idea of this format is keep teslamotorsclub section on the forum index or forum front page.

2. Have two sections with forums under them. You can get to these sections from the Homepage I just set up and both teslamotorsclub.com and electricperformance.com
The home page has a site navigation box where you will be able to click onto Teslamotorsclub forum section or electric performance forum section.
It goes like this.

Category Tesla Motors Club
Tesla Motors
Tesla Roadster
Future Car: Whitestar, Bluestar
Suggest any further categories if you want but that really the easiest and simplist.
Category: Electric Performance
Electric Cars
-Brammo
-Electric Conversions
-Other Electric Cars

-General Technical
-Batteries
Off Topic
-Environment
-Site Feedback
-Non electric cars
-Off topic

I personally prefer the first method as it doesn't have any subfourms however the second makes a clearer distinction between electric performance and teslamotorsclub and allows me to put graphics in the teslamotors section that differ to the electric performance section.
Remeber the sites homepage will have a direct link to the teslamotorsclub forum if the second method is used.
Thanks
Danny

And I thought I would also add, that in regard to graphics and design, I just put the site up, give me some time. I will get something up, but I don't have unlimited money to spend on someone hoping the graphics will come out. Do you have any idea how much custom graphics costs!? A lot.

I vote for the second option.

I have no trouble waiting for all things to really come together as long there is openess of views and intentions. Maybe you could setup a paypal account for donations? Some income is better than no income.

In the meanwhile I guess I should check this Brammo thing that has its own section in both options... ;)
