This car has been nothing short of amazing. I picked up my White S85 back on Friday at the Factory. The tour was incredible but most importantly made me feel very connected to the car during delivery, having seen how it was just made. Driving off the lot, I was filled with a bit of anxiety, still in my mind thinking it was my 4th test drive. (seriously)
In the first minute after my delivery specialist walked away, I walked around the car and just admired my new beautiful acquisition. I was so filled with excitement, I can now find humor in the fact that it took me maybe 2-3 minutes figuring out how to unlock the car (I forgot to double click). Once I figured that out, it was all smooth sailing. Driving out of the Tesla grounds with 3 other Model S cars was a feeling not to be forgotten. Was part of this new club!
In that first day, I managed to put about 85 miles on the car and also give it a fresh coat of sealant. The next morning, first stop was Auto Image in Belmont for a nice set of sunglasses (tint) -- 35% in the front, 15% in the back -- on a white car this was the look I was going for!
For a little while, I had been planning a trip down to LA (mix of work and pleasure) - and of course, having the Tesla was the plan. Leaving that afternoon, I just went for one of the main reasons I got this car (to explore!). First stop from the peninsula was the Gilroy supercharger -- having never seen a supercharger, I had no idea what to expect. Easy to find, parked next to a few other Teslas and picked up some goodies for 45 minutes. With a full charge, I was finding it hard to control my energy usage on the highway until I realized I should set the cruise control at 70. Beautiful.
Harris Ranch was the next stop - another smooth supercharging experience and a surprisingly great place for dinner (never stopped there before as I'm vegetarian -- and surprisingly, there was still stuff for me to eat there). It was dark on the road, and quite empty but I remained cruising at about 70. About halfway to Tejon, I saw a car come up to me quickly and start driving right next to me. And for my next quintessential Tesla experience-- a corvette literally pulled up next to me to race. I wouldn't have normally done this, but the freeway was completely empty and I had a brand new car. I didn't race but I stepped on it for literally like 2 seconds and then went right back to 70. The corvette thought I was down for some fun -- pulled up next to me and gunned it for a little while until he realized I didn't follow suit. He then slowed down, came up next to me and literally started revving -- this was going on for about 2-3 minutes before he got bored and moved on. Quite exhilarating.
I then made it to Tejon and was actually blown away by this supercharger - it had a roof! (You'll know what I mean if you've been there). Now it was really starting to hit me that life would be different. After Tejon, I continued on cruise control over the grapevine with ease. A bit of range anxiety as you use a lot of energy climbing, but before you know it the decline came and it was amazing how little energy I used from the peak all the way to my destination in Venice.
In the day or two since, I've gotten countless smiles, stares, and even a few random conversations. I got a chance to visit the Hawthorne supercharger last night at Space X (since I'm not at home, I'll probably just supercharge every few days until I get back up to the bay area and my 14-50). Things have been flawless so far, and it has truly been a dream to drive. Everyone I show the car to is blown away.
I've had a few fun cars before but this is completely on a different level. The suspension is amazing. Turning creep off is amazing, the display is incredibly useful. Every day I get a bit more comfortable -- really glad I got the parking sensors, but still a bit hesitant for any crazy parallel parking (this was something I had no qualms of doing in any environment anywhere before -- it's a big car after all). But I love it-- with the drive to LA and going around I have over 650 miles in 3 days but $0 in gas - which is still blowing my mind.
