Price comparison chart between countries

Due to the discussion in the Euro price cut thread I put together a small table with the base price for a Model S in different countries.
Prices are in USD and all incentives have been removed as well as VAT (where applicable).
Prices within parenthesis are today's price in local currency as listed in the design studio for each country so if this price and the design studio price differs, there has been an adjustment of the price (or VAT or incentive if included).

I hope to be able to update this table if a price adjustment occurs or there are large currency variations.

pls deduct 609500 691000 801500 for VAT in Japan. there are car tax, weight tax and
consumption tax (=VAT), and former two are waived for EVs.

for example the Japanese price without VAT is 8230000-609500.

Assuming the numbers are correct, is the major difference because of the corresponding import tax+customs duty?

Sorry I wasn'tclear enough. 8230000 JPY is inclusive of 8% VAT. So if you are comparing prices with no VAT baais, then the price would be
8230000 - 609500 = 7620500 JPY for an S60.

Hong Kong:

S60 - $74,400
S85 - $84,400
P85- $97,900

No tax is applicable to the vehicle. (Thank God!) These prices will be different in Mainland China. Would you please make a separate entry for Hong Kong as it is totally different to China.

Ok. Thanks. That is the amount I deducted so then the Japanese prices are correct.

For China, probably. For Japan, I don't know (probably not).
For all European countries, no, there is no import tax or customs duty. The difference compared to USA and Canada is most likely that they have to disassemble them (motor taken out?), ship them over the atlantic and the reassemble them in Tilburg in the Netherlands.
The "jump" for Sweden and Denmark is probably that their currencies (SEK and DKK) have continued to strengthen compared to the USD since the last price adjustment. If they continue to do so, a price reduction is likely in those countries (just like the one done late last year).

I'll try. But as you might have noticed (or not). Not all EU countries are listed since I see little point in this...

FYI Japan lifted car import duties since 1978. We have CHAdeMO adapter bundled with all cars. For S60, supercharger and CHAdeMO is not enabled and need to add 243,000 JPY for supercharger/CHAdeMO support.
Maybe that's one of the reasons for price difference from U.S. models.

There are also other differences in what you get between the different markets.

For instance, here in Norway, you pay a $400 deposit that you get back when you scrap the car. This is included in the amount paid. This is to ensure that people don't leave old cars to rust away in their back yards.

Power adapters are also different between the different markets. Warranty obligations as well.

How interesting. We could definitely use that in upstate NY, where rusting cars are a common rural sight.

No word yet on Australian pricing yet, strange given that it's slated for June launch here and it remains unpriced in March. There are rumours in the absence of facts, of course they must be taken with a grain of salt but media outlets are talking about prices of around AUD$230,000 for a S85. They won't sell many at that price of those rumours are true:cursing:

Unlikely considering that worldwide prices seems to be about the same when taking into account transportation and modifications. Now luxury car tax and stamp duty and GST will drive the price in Australia up of course and it will be on the high end anyway because of RHD, shipping etc. But I don't think it will be USD 208k for a base S85 even including all taxes and fees.

I hope you're correct, we seem to pay a substantial 'Australia tax' for virtually everything.

One thing I don't quite understand is why you didn't just use Other EU as that's the baseline price that is independente of ANY local regulation and taxes and incentives. As an example, for Other EU the prices are:

S60 -> 55090€ -> 76600$
S85 -> 62770€ -> 87275$
P85 -> 73370€ -> 102010$

I think something went wrong with the conversion to USD.
P85 Germany EUR 87,600 this is $102,198. However, the same car in the Netherlands is more expensive in Euro's (EUR 88,700) but somehow cheaper in USD ($ 101,728)?????

For Finland, add 5% car import duty to those prices (yes, even if imported from other EU country e.g. Netherlands)

Because as shown, when incentives and VAT has been removed, the prices aren't the same which is kind of one of the points to show.

Thanks for the information.

I'm completely annoyed by the fact that we in Denmark have to pay €4000 more compared to our neighbors in Germany to the south, before we add 25% VAT and they add 19% VAT. I know Tesla has nothing to do with the VAT difference, but matching prices would level out the difference.

Actually I'm so annoyed by this, I'm holding back my order for a Model S P85 (base model with added tech package, parking sensor and pano-roof) that ends up at $126.000 at today's exchange rate.

If anyone at Tesla wants to give me a fair price in Denmark compared to the rest of the EU, and not apply the Scandinavian premium just because you can, contact me and I will buy a car.
