Supercharger - Primm, NV

Ironically Primm has the advantage of giving those headed to Utah from California the option of avoiding the new Las Vegas supercharger, it's about 160 miles from Primm to St. George.

Excellent development!!

I've done Vegas run from SoCal a number of times with my lowly 60kwh and

a). No fun to drive slow between Barstow and Vegas
b). No fun to need a full range charge at Barstow to get to Vegas

with Primm in place, I will be able to do quick stops (how it should be)

BTW, I see an 85kwh battery in my future. Either battery swap or more likely new car - P85 (or P110 supersport) ;)

And if stopping for 20 minutes in Primm allows you to go an extra 10 mph faster from Barstow, you'll get to keep up with traffic and it won't cost you any time. It's like magic!

The dot is back for Primm, NV, on the Coming Soon map. I have been monitoring building permits for quite some time and haven't seen anything, but definitely will keep an ear to the ground.

This is a great development for us 60 owners! But graphics are not caught up, I was at Hawthorne yesterday and the supercharger graphic there had a blank spot for Primm but a giant red dot for Las Vegas.

Or avoiding Las Vegas completely by jumping east to Henderson and then continuing north along Lake Mead (scenic route). Alternatively one could take the circumferential Hwy215 around the west side of the city. Nice to have these options.

I played the Primm golf course yesterday, and they are truly xlnt courses. But I assume the SC would be installed at the casino-resort? They're 7 miles apart and no way is it walkable.

The presumption is that it will be near the outlet mall or one of the two casinos in Primm. There's not much to do at the golf course if you aren't golfing.

Could have used a Primm Supercharger this weekend. Going from Vegas to Barstow, got 4.6 miles into the reserve on my 60 before I reached Barstow. Traffic and a headwind really hurt the range. Fortunately, I followed a motorhome for the last 35 miles. After a 45 minute charge, it was back to driving like a bat-outa-hell the rest of the way home.

There are a lot of stories just like that, and the Vegas-Barstow leg can be a real challenge in the wind. Fortunately Tesla appears to have listened. I have been watching Clark County building permits for months and have not seen any permits, which is discouraging.

Can see how it helps 60 owners, but I'm not sure Primm really helps 85 owners on the San Diego to Vegas run. Still have to stop in Barstow regardless.

Would like to see one in Victorville to allow a bypass of Barstow. Either that or install about 10 more charging stations in Barstow.

If there's a strong headwind, you may need to range charge an 85 for the Vegas to Barstow trip, and range charging takes time. A supercharger anywhere in between will save time.

As a 60 owner myself, I'd like to see superchargers on both sides of Barstow.

There are lots of war stories about 85s barely making it from Barstow to Las Vegas or vice versa especially when there is wind and if the driver chose to keep up with traffic. Not needing a full charge in Barstow could also take some pressure off that busy location.

Anyone have the scoop on the Roadster HPC that was at Barstow Station? That last comment on Plugshare says it's gone. This could have been really useful for anyone who couldn't quite make it from Vegas to the Barstow supercharger, given the location about 6 miles east of the supercharger.

Our Las Vegas Tesla folks confirm that there are more charging stalls in the plan for Barstow, but no confirmation of timing. Four just doesn't cut it...............especially with weekend traffic.

Has work started on the additional Barstow stalls? I might have to stop there the 3rd of July, the Thursday before a long Independence day weekend. I imagine there's a lot of potential for congestion on that date.

(If there's a dedicated Barstow thread, I couldn't find it.)
