Paying the car

Did get the invoice for the car in january. still not payed as i still just have a "middle of march" and no date for delivery. Interesting experience buying a luxury car from Tesla. Extremely bad info and logistics.

Did you get your invoice 1.5-2 months before delivery?

dont like to moan but the experience is not optimal at all... wonder if there is anyone at Tesla that is interested in the customer experience of buying a model S (Euro perspective) ?

I was asked to pay 1 week before delivery, the car was basiclly put on the auto transporter and shipped to the local Tesla Service Center.
I imagine for overseas delivery, the logistics might be very differerent... or it could mean your car is on the boat, and will be arriving early :)
I would call Tesla and ask...

I have the instructions but not going to pay until I get a delivery date. Why would i pay 130K USD before Tesla can even tell me when they can deliver the car? Yes talked to delivery specialist but he still cannot give me a specific date. Find this a bit amazing to be frank... ;-) Get a feeling tesla is not ready to ramp up production with this logistics / customer communication issues not solved...

Will tune in when I get an update. Assume the quartely reports is the most important thing so with that they will want to dump me the car before end of March... ;-)

well I dont pay for things until i get them. i would rather want to pay the car the same day as delivery after inspecting it. But I understand that I need to pay before delivery. But not paying months before. my delivery specialist had no comment on that so no issue it seems...

I had the same experience. I am making a very small down payment and most of it is financed. My delivery is still a month away but I got the payment instructions last week. I have already made the down payment (I know I could have waited until delivery date) but will finalize the loan and have the bank cut the check when the car is ready for delivery. I also found it to be odd that Tesla customers are given payment instructions so far in advance even before car has gone in production, let alone ready for delivery!!

(this is pure speculation)

Perhaps, Tesla is trying to get the 1st quarter deliveries set, the 1st quarter ends 3/31/2014, so they are sending out the payment notifications early,
so people have time to get their financing in place, and some will just pay early. Makes for better 1st Quarter results :)
Remember a lot of inventory is tied up in shipping (especially to the EU), if some of your customers pay ahead, that's less inventory on the water...

We did coil for hers as she prefers the higher ride height and the added parking stop clearance that comes with it.

As for the comparison, her coils were the primary reason I removed the air from my P+ and replaced it with coils. Air is good for certain things but coils excel at providing feedback from the road.

VIN 32808, expected delivery 3/17, dashboard says "sourcing parts." I got the invoice today, and there is a "make payment" button, probably because I provided the financing information. I believe in holding on to my money as long as possible, unless there is an early payment discount. I like lolachampcar's practice of showing up with a check. That gives the most flexibility, if the car is early or late. I can see initiating an electronic payment if production is finished, because then delivery to Chicago burbs and payment may coincide, but I'm not going to pay 19 days early.
