How Much Notice Do They Generally Give For Final Delivery Date?

I'm taking delivery at the factory (and plan to bring 3 friends for tour). My estimated delivery and tour date is March 26th. Was wondering if it could be a week's notice for final delivery date or if I might not know until the last minute. Wanting to coordinate with friends and be able to keep some days open in case of last minute changes. I ordered and confirmed on Feb. 5th. Have they ever delivered the car sooner than the estimated date?

Have they ever delivered the car sooner than the estimated date?

They're probably getting better, but last March when I got mine, the answer was "yes" they delivered early.

I had received a kind of "low-ball" quote on my trade-in and was thinking of trying to sell privately closer to my delivery date. Out of the blue, I got a call saying my car was in and could I come and pick it up right away. I believe it was about 3 weeks earlier than what I had been expecting.

I was supposed to pick mine up on a Saturday, but it was ready the Tuesday before. Of course, that was after the original "1 month priority delivery" was scheduled for just shy of 2 months after confirmation, so whether you consider that early or late is up to you. They both happen.

If they told you the 26th, it will probably be around that date. You can schedule tour/delivery for a week or so later to ensure it's ready when you're ready, I think they'll hold it for up to a month. I had a friend fly in from out of town because he was excited about the car, but unable to purchase until next year. My car was ready a week prior, but opted for pick up at a time that would accommodate everyone schedule. Now waiting longer when the car is ready will be difficult because you'll feel like a kid on Christmas eve and want to run down to the factory to get your car.

Great to hear all your other experiences! I spoke with my Delivery Experience Specialist today, (love that title!), and he said it could be a day or two earlier, so the estimated date is pretty accurate. He also said that there were a large number of other owners taking deliver of their Model S and touring the factory on the same day. He said the last two weeks in March were pretty busy, and offered the option of taking the tour on a separate day, and I could still bring 3 friends if I wanted to do the tour in early April. I'm pondering that idea. That way I could pick the car up at a slightly closer service station and do the tour later. We'll see. All very exciting! Had the NEMA 14-50 installed today, making this all the more real!!

The second meter is one of the options available to owners of electric vehicle from the power company ( for me this is Southern California Edison). The separate new electric panel and new meter can only be used for EV charging. The power used on this meter is at a low rate. The homeowner needs to do the work and can install 50 amp plug or the 100 amp HPWC. I have installed the HPWC but had the electrician run a second line in case we get a second EV and want to install a second 50 amp plug on the other side of the garage.

Our original date was nov 22nd which was a Friday. I got a call from my delivery specialist on November 12th saying the car would be ready to be picked up on the 15th an entire week early. We were supposed to have one month priority delivery and originally disappointed it would take longer and it ended up being 31 days. Go tesla! So I'd say use it as a guide but it's not always completely locked in stone.

@blaze. My delivery date is also march 15 here in NC, But this is good news from the Tesla DS.

The Model S is slated to enter production next week. Once production is completed I will have an updated ETA. Currently the ETA is showing March 15th but that tends to be conservative at this stage.

I'd recommend calling or emailing your delivery specialist periodically (I have emailed him once per week over the past month). I was able to move up my delivery date by 5 days from the previously scheduled date. Once it is completed production, they can get a pretty good sense of timing.

I'm now set for delivery on March 6!!
