I use the word competition here loosely, but a similarly sized and styled high-end crossover has these characteristics: "…a wet, multi-clutch transfer case mounts to the rear of the eight-speed automatic transmission. This is a unique application, as most AWD systems use a viscous coupling unit. The system is designed to be primarily rear-wheel drive, but the clutches open and close as necessary to send torque forward. The system is capable of sending up to 50 percent of engine power to the front wheels and will send 35 percent forward for a hard launch. The front differential is open while the rear differential features a mechanical limited-slip device.
