NY State EVSE Tax Credit

Hi all,

I wanted to pass along this information as it seems like it is not very well known, and it might save some of you a bunch of money.

There is a NY-specific EVSE tax credit of 50% up to $5000 - good for installs in 2013 and doesn't expire until 2017.

Alternative Fueling Infrastructure Tax Credit

An income tax credit is available for 50% of the cost alternative fueling infrastructure, up to $5,000. Qualifying infrastructure includes electric vehicle supply equipment and equipment to dispense fuel that is 85% or more natural gas, propane, or hydrogen. Unused credits may be carried over into future tax years. The credit expires December 31, 2017. (Reference Assembly Bill 03009, 2013; Senate Bill 02609, 2013; andNew York Tax Law 187-b)

This should be in addition to the 30% Federal credit.

Perhaps this is known, but I did search here and found no mention of it, and it's not well known on the other EV boards I'm on.

I'd be interested in following whether any of you are successful at receiving this credit as my father has a Model S on order and this might influence his choice of home charging stations. I myself have a plug-in Prius and would consider installing a better EVSE as well if the 80% total credit works out.

I passed this information along to my accountant, and had hoped to take the credit. It turns out that in order to take the credit, the equipment must be used in "trade or business."

I'm including a picture of part of the form's instructions, showing some of the relevant information.
