Whole Foods stops using 350Green charging

Parked at my local Whole Foods yesterday to be greeted by this depressing sign attached to both Level 2 (active) and Level 3 (always has been dead) chargers.

Store manager told me that head office had told him / (all stores) that as they are no longer doing business with 350Green, box them up.

I thought, given that company X (? and ? Power had bought 350Green out of bankruptcy? that these Level 3's would be fired up again (at least in the midwest) ... anyone know what the real story is behind this is?

I don't know, but I expect they weren't able to negotiate a price with the new owners--or perhaps this is a negotiating tactic. Whole Paycheck is mostly known for its giant markups.

Of course, there's some question as to why anyone would need an EVSE at a grocery store since grocery stores are usually within five miles of home.

Maybe you're right ... but they could make themselves, with their level 3's and our Tesla adapters, part of the "Destination" charging landscape.

Wonder if the other Level 3's at Oases and Walgreens in Chicago (not to be confused by the silly Level 2's at Wags) are also being yanked out?

Depends how sticky you are. If you have a Tesla and need a charger at your grocery store, I hope the scenery makes it worth it.

Sorry? Sticky?
Thinking of out of towners ... I'd never use it. But if, say, there was one in Indi Whole Foods, I'd charge there AND shop there. Granted, their prices are insane, but a cup of ??? at their bar for 45 is better than nothing?

That is when, oh when, the Level 3 adapted does come out!

The amount of power a L2 EVSE can provide and the amount of time required to get any power of significance for ANY EV driver makes me wonder about the thought process put into the installation of these charging stations at supermarkets. Malls, casinos... places where I'd likely spend more than 2-3 hours would be much better places. Anywhere else, give me a SC or L3.

Sorry. British idiom: to live out in the sticks = live in the middle of nowhere. I was liberally using sticky to refer to that. I agree that grocery store charging is low value for urbanites, but I know people who drive over 10 miles to get to a Supermarket. An hour of Level 2 could make a big differenceto those people if they had a plug-in.

Personally, I would find a distant Whole Foods as a nice "stop for a charge" destination. Many have some tables to eat at in the store. Many have ready to eat hot food being sold.

At $7.99 per pound it's way above my pay grade :) We used to eat there all the time, but now it's cheaper to eat at a restaurant.

British idiom? I am British. I think "sticks" as in "way the h3ll out in the middle of nowhere" is an American euphemism? Is it not? :)

The Whole Foods in Chattanooga has a solar array and at least four Blink network chargers.
Maybe their people should talk to the Schaumburg people and include head office in the call? :)

But I agree 100% with other posters who maintain that "J-plugs" have no business being at grocery stores. That's the domain of a Level 3 or Supercharger. JPlugs belong at movie theaters, hotels.

HPWC's belong everywhere!
