Will only work with the Pano roof. It has the mount things on the top.

Looks awesome...this is what I've been waiting for! I'm sick of resting my stand-up paddleboard on foam blocks directly on top of my pano roof, with the straps running over the windows and through the cabin of the car. I'll be first in line (online?!) to buy this

Pleas verify this information before you purchase these items. I much prefer the standard load bars to the 'aero' variety. I have no affiliation with Thule, or Yakima other than I own a Thule rack, and love it.

Both have Tesla Model S in their fit guides. Thule has the 2014 Model X in their guide, but no fit!

This is a re-branded Yakima bar, like the Tesla all-season mats are WeatherTech. Whispbar is a company Yakima purchased a few years ago. There were rumors one was going to be launched shortly, given that the previous towers only supported the higher-drag bar shapes.

What kind of impact should I expect with a roof rack installed?

Tesla really needs to add the capability of roof racks without the pano roof.
Anyone know why Tesla made this decision?

A noticeable impact in range, probably ~10% minimum. And if you put other stuff up there even more. A lot of added wind noise. And well the ability to carry almost anything.

$519 actually seems lower than I'd have expected from a premium car maker. You are paying for the engineering and materials to ensure your stuff stays on the car as well as the convenience of the ease of install/uninstall.

It's a pretty good price. Generic Whispbars are $450 - $480 through Yakima, and the custom-fitted ones are often more than that, so $519 is indeed pretty good.

Definitely want one of these with a bike and ski adapter.

Volume and economies of scale. The roof rack is rebranded and made by a company who sells tens of thousand of units that can be used by several makes of cars. How large is the market for yacht floors? Plus it comes in 5(?) styles?

€239 is about $330 us. In any case are you sure it's the whole system you get for that price? I think you are just seeing the bars or mounts.

I just got a set of these crossbars from Yakima last week. I got them directly them the company and they are awesome.

Normally when something costs 100 USD in the USA we pay € 100,- for it in Europe, regardless the exchange rate (due to import taxes, 21% VAT etc)

This price is for bars and the feet to mount.
