Tesla Motors Club (TMC) is an international community of Electric Vehicle (EV) owners and enthusiasts, both knowledgeable and novice, particularly focused on Tesla Motors. Here at TMC we encourage everyone to participate in and enjoy the Community while at the same time adhering to these Guidelines.

(For more detail please see our Terms of Service as well as our Advertising Policy.)

Be Welcoming!
When newcomers arrive, welcome them to our growing community. Many of our community's senior members are a wealth of knowledge and have much to share. Help new members learn about how to find information and resources, save time, and how to get involved in the Community.

Be Courteous!
Don't attack others. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully ... without insult and personal attack. We also ask that you maintain a level of objectivity and be aware of your own biases. Don’t try to state opinions as fact and be careful to distinguish between the two.

Be Cautious!
Think before you post or speak: Do you really want to put your address or telephone number on a public discussion forum? We encourage you to keep personal information personal.
In the same vein, avoid unnecessarily asking for personal information from others. Information that should be considered personal includes but is not limited to your home phone number, name, and age. If you have good reason to give this out, consider doing so via Private Message or in a private Group.

Be Appropriate!
There may be places where explicit, obscene or vulgar language, graphics or behavior is appropriate, however TMC is not one of those places. Posts containing explicit, obscene or vulgar language will be removed. Similarly, posts that solicit or offer explicit or X-rated GIFs, JPEGs or similar content files will be deleted without notice! Links to Websites with adult content/images will be removed. Simply put, we like to keep it "family friendly".

Be Ethical!
TMC's website: resources, articles, and discussions are based on basic, appropriate professional ethical behavior. Unethical behavior: misrepresenting yourself, creating sock-puppet accounts, endorsing products or companies without disclosing compensation, spamming, and/or any illegal activities are completely inappropriate and will result in the loss of membership at TMC.

Signature Guidelines
You signature may include:
  1. up to three lines of text
  2. fonts up to size 2
  3. information about you, your vehicle(s), or any other relevant information that is devoid of solicitations
Your signature may not include:
  1. images or animations
  2. unapproved advertising messages
  3. links to commercial or competing websites
  4. e-mail addresses or phone numbers
  5. Tesla referral links
If your signature is in violation of any of these rules, staff may remove or edit it without prior notice. If you have any questions as to whether something is acceptable, please PM a Staff Member. Additionally, signature text that is too long or obtrusive may be edited or removed. This would include overly creative use of punctuation, color, etc. which make the signature too flashy.

No Additional User Accounts
Regular members are only allowed one account on TMC. Do not create a second account for any reason. If you forget your password, reset it. If you would like to change your username, Contact US and we will consider it. If you were banned or otherwise temporarily or permanently prohibited from posting on TMC, you are not allowed to create another account in order to circumvent the ban.

No Cross-Posting
Do not post the same discussion more than once on a discussion forum or on many forums or threads. Duplicate discussions are frustrating and counterproductive for other members, especially for those whose time and energy is limited. Duplicate discussions will be merged or deleted.

No Advertising – Spam
Do not heedlessly place your advertisements through the Discussion Forums. This will be considered SPAM and could result in the loss of your TMC Community Membership. Affiliate links, referral links, or any link posted for financial benefit, are considered advertising. Those wishing to advertise must first come make an arrangement with TMC management. You may not use TMC to spread the word about or advertise any commercial endeavor, which includes but is not limited to, commercial events, websites, services and businesses. TMC reserves the right to remove any content that fits the above description.

No Excessive Thread Bumping
It's just bad forum etiquette.

No Abuse of TMC messaging systems (PM's and email form)
Personal Messaging is provided to the members of TMC as a service intended to enhance the Community experience. The purpose of personal messaging is to allow for discreet conversations to take place between members. This privilege is not to be abused! Solicitation, spamming, or harassment of any kind is strictly forbidden. Any member receiving an inappropriate personal message should use the Report Post feature and/or forward that message to an Administrator or Moderator right away. Although PM's are normally only accessible by those who send and receive them, they are part of the database and as such, property of TMC.

No Abuse of Reaction/Voting Facilities
Reactions (Like/Disagree/Helpful/etc.) are provided to members in order to increase engagement with content and improve the flow of dialogue. The reactions are intended to be used as content is being read in real-time and not as a method to "troll" other members. Hunting down other members' posts in order to provide reactions is not in line with the intended use. Members who feel they are being attacked through the reaction facility should use the Report Post feature or send a message directly to an Administrator or Moderator for review.

Competing Sites, Businesses, Individuals and Organizations
The internet is a big place, and it's no surprise that from time to time a site, business, individual or organization will come along whose mission is to occupy the same niche as TMC. We have no issue with that. However, it would be against our best interests, and therefore the best interests of our members, for us to allow such sites, businesses, individuals and organizations to build upon our popularity by promoting themselves on TMC. Therefore, no competing site, business, individual or organization may attempt to gain traffic from TMC in any way, including but not limited to, links in posts, signatures, profile information, PM's, or emails. TMC reserves the right to remove any information/content displayed/posted on TeslaMotorsClub.com that may promote and push traffic towards competitors.

Group Buys
In order to be fair to existing official Vendors (paying advertisers) who help support the site, all group buys coordinated on TMC should be with existing Vendors. If you would like to arrange a group buy with a business that is not a TMC vendor, please encourage them to become one. Exclusions to this policy include threads which can reasonably be described as "Group Projects", where all processes to craft / manufacture an item / perform a process are shared in such a way that members can perform the steps themselves if so desired. This includes, but is not limited to, things like sharing 3d print files (if applicable), cable creation pinouts / connections etc.

Copyrighted Material
Information copyrighted or owned by any individual or entity other than the member should not be posted on the discussion forums without the consent of the owner. If such an event occurs, the individual posting the information shall be held solely responsible. TMC shall not be held responsible for member-posted information that may violate copyright law.

You cannot legally post entire articles or news in the forum without permission from the copyright holder. Even if you attribute the article correctly it’s still copyright infringement. Copyright law does not care if you make any money off of the work or not, what matters is if you hurt the potential income of the copyright holder. In this case you would be depriving them of ad revenue and it is illegal. Under Fair Use provisions you can legally post a small abstract or excerpt of an article - or perhaps the opening paragraph. So if you want to post an article, you should do this and include a link. The exception to this rule is press releases; press releases are meant for distribution and can be copied and distributed as much as you want. If you are not sure if you can copy something then always err on the side of caution.
