The Tesla Factory is now building your Model S....what are the process stages ?

I logged into my dashboard today and saw that the status changed from "Sourcing Parts"...to now, The Tesla Factory is now building your Model S. This seems strange as my delivery date isn't until 12/9, almost 40 days from now. So, a couple of questions:

1. Is the factory really building the car given the 40 days?
2. What are the various process stages that change on the Dashboard?

Thanks.

My dashboard switched to In Production today too. My delivery date is Nov 18th.

I got my first call today from my delivery specialist who said "it could be 12/14 or sometime the following week".

My dashboard also changed today to "In Production The Tesla Factory is building your Model S".

Must be a long production run!

Me too - got "In Production" just today. Last I heard my Production End Of Line date was Nov 18 and delivery is "conservatively" scheduled for Dec 9. So now I'm setting myself up for disappointment by hoping for a late November delivery

Confrirm 9/12 vin < 23000 saw in production a couple of days ago and now I saw this. So the car was only in production for a couple of days. How long now it's complete? My delivery date is 11/12 or 11 days from time of writing at the Palo Alto Showroom. Can't imagine it takes 11 days to get prepared and delivered across the bay. Any ideas?

Production Complete
Your Model S is being prepared for pickup or delivery.

Rule number 1 -Don't beleive dashboard--Tesla will even tell you that.

Mine showed in production when it was already on a truck

I fully understand the fluctuations post-production, but before it enters production it's a slippery road if the status cannot be believed. People will take the In Production change literally and start preparations by locking in financing, insurance etc that might have some kind of reprecussions if the actual fact is that the car enters production 1-2 months later in reality.

I have VIN 26190 and like the others my dashboard switched to in production Friday Nov 1. My delivery on the East East is for week of December 16. Assuming 10 days (or so) to cross country it would be competed by November 30th. Maybe the change just means the car will be built in month of November? I'm not getting my hopes up that it will be delivered early.

A friend of mine here on the east coast ordered his at the beginning of June. It went into production (per the dashboard) in mid Jun but was delivered in mid July. We may be looking at something similar here. I know in the recent past we were seeing delivery 1-2 weeks after the car entered production depending on location. I think the best bet is to talk with our respective Delivery Specialists and see what they say. I've not spoken to mine since last week when he told me to expect my MVPA the week of 11/04 so I'm waiting on that to see. I was kind of surprised to see the dashboard change as my expected In Production was 11/18. Even with the above, I now have a little more hope of a pre-Thanksgiving delivery. :)

I ordered and confirmed my S85 on Sept. 29, 2013, at that time I was told to expect delivery early November, could be as early as late October. However, my dashboard soon there after showed, late November. Finally my DS emailed me for November 29 delivery, which is more in line with Time line stated on Tesla web site. Then I received another email from my DS, saying that delivery date is going to slip, due to Thanksgiving holidays. Now I don't know what to believe. Does any body else has same experience? i.e. moving /inconsistent dates.
BTW: Dashboard changed yesterday from "sourcing parts" to "In Production"

It seems that East Coast deliveries take longer compared to West coast, probably due to transportation factor.

Thanks elecblue. I failed to mention that after confirmation I made changes, first from Blue paint to multicoat Red, and then yet again yesterday, I asked my DS to include Power Folding Mirrors, which were not available at the time I confirmed my order. On both occasions, TESLA accommodated my requests, in-spite of the fact that rules do not allow any changes subsequent to confirmation. May be that is what caused the slippage. A great positive however is that TESLA and it's representatives are extremely accommodating and provide exceptional Customer Service, which indeed is indicative of a Great Company.

Based on the Nat Geo megafactories documentary on Tesla, each car takes about 3-5 days to go from rolled aluminum (assuming no inventory of body panels) to completed car. It would be great if they told you when your vehicle is beginning the assembly line process but there are most likely practical limitations that would prevent this.
I was under the impression that never aired. How did you manage to find it?

Could those who have posted about their Dashboard page suddenly showing their car in now in production and what their delivery date is please also post the date they confirmed their order and if their car is a 60, 85, or P85? That would be helpful information.

I ordered and confirmed an 85 on Sep. 29th and my dashboard still shows "sourcing parts" and delivery as being in December (no date given).

Thanks.

Here is my info (see signature) but unfortunately the delivery date on the web page disappeared a couple of weeks ago and has not returned. Like just about everyone else, mine shows In Production as of 1 Nov.

The date went away like ecarfan said.

It does show this, though:
"Estimated Delivery We will contact you to schedule your exact delivery date and time."

They contacted us a week or so ago saying production was to begin 11/25. We're really hoping Tesla is trying to get as many built as possible for their first full year of production, and they've accelerated the current US batch now that the EU run is over.

GO TESLA, GO!
