Thread: Opel Ampera

The Ampera styling really seems more modern and youthful compared to the Volt...

Good review. Don't forget that those "alloy wheels" are *forged* aluminum however. No mention of the tires either. Developed specifically for the Volt, but also used on other models, the Goodyear FuelMax tires provide exceptionally good grip and steering response for a low rolling resistance tire.

Personally, I think the stock Volt handles well. However the comments in the article would likely be best addressed by stiffer, or adjustable, dampers, not by changing spring rates.

PS. Adjusting tire pressures is the first handling mod to make on any car. I am using 45 psi in all four tires and it is working well for me. More EV miles, sharper turn in, stiffer overall spring rates, and more confidence that I will not separate the bead from the wheel durring hard cornering. However, it doesn't change damping.

I wasn't aware the Ampera had a fuel cell.
No reservation at the moment. Planning on getting a Tesla in a few years.

Chevrolet will chop the price of the Volt by €7500,= in Germany. Starting price in Germany is about €42000,=, so that's a significant number.

However, the price of the Chevy Volts European twin, the Opel Ampera, will remain the same.

Anticipation is always the best part of owning any new gadget. Enjoy it while you can.

However, in this case, ownership will be quite rewarding as well.

Just went to see my new toy. I am sooooooo glad I got the black one.

Paid for it, sat in it, cooed over it, put my stuff in the boot... but I can't drive it until Tuesday. Not even the dealer demo car can be used until then apparently.
