iOS airplay/apple tv request

I wish there was a way to mirror my iphone or ipad to the 17in display either partially or in whole. It's not really that hard.
Theres already software that is an airplay client for pc or mac: http://www.airserver.com/

I've even thought of wiring a bypass switch to the rear view signal and find a way to send the hdmi output from an apple tv to the screen instead.

any ideas?
