To the folks that have purchased a Model S in NC:

My delivery window is June 5 - June 19. It has been hard to figure out exactly what happens when the car arrives and I have to register it. I've not gotten a purchase agreement yet, so I was wondering if the NC Highway Use Tax (HUT) is factored into the total bill that I pay to Tesla or do I need to plan on paying the HUT when I go get a plate from the DMV? I live in Raleigh so I'll be going downtown to the headquarters and getting a plate as soon as I get my paperwork.

Supposed to pick it up at the Raleigh SC on June 15th. Hopefully the next three weeks go quickly. :)
Congrats! That means we have similar delivery windows but looks like you are a step or two ahead of me. I hope I get a MVPA soon. I find it odd that I haven't heard from a delivery specialist if I supposedly could take delivery as soon as the 5th. Does your App allow you to log on?

No, I can't use the app.

I think their delivery window is a bit early right now for the east coast, the 15th is towards the tail end of the window I got from the questionnaire... I got contacted by the DS a few days after I filled it out (my banker actually got ahold of her before she got in touch with me!), and finalizing the MVPA was a few days after that. I would think they should get to you next week.

Hey guys I picking mine up on the 31st! Will be glad to update you after that on an queries . So far it has been smooth sailing and they underpromise and over deliver.

we should have a meetup in Raleigh soon !

A meetup would be awesome. I was at the service center today and saw that they had 8 new ones delivered yesterday. What color is yours? Any information about registration and property tax values would be awesome. The DMV has always been a mess to me. Now that we pay property tax along with HUT when we register, I'm just wondering what they use to value the car. My App went live yesterday so it shouldn't be long now.

Awesome! Welcome to the club. I should take delivery any day now. The wait is killing me. What did you order?

A meetup would indeed be awesome!

If you want to really spread the Tesla word to existing and potential enthusiasts, I'd suggest holding the meetup to coincide with the existing Raleigh Cars & Coffee meetup... see a bit more info in the Raleigh Cars & Coffee thread if interested.

That looks awesome. There is a similar event every first Saturday at Brier Creek. Various clubs meet every Saturday, but the big event is the first Saturday of every month. I live and work near Brier Creek and have spent some time at the event there. I'll have to check out the Cary show.

Not 100% sure (as only went to the one show in Cary so far), but thought I heard the history of the event moving around making it sound like while they did meet at Brier Creek in the past, a few folks were a bit crazy with burning rubber there so they were asked to not hold the event there again.

Blue/grey/matte obeche non-P 84, pano, tech, sound. I was in DC last weekend test driving and that was just the last straw. I saw a brand new white P84 on I40 yesterday. He must have come right from the SC as he had no plate and still had the little CA temp tag in the window.

From talking with a few other folks it sounds like you get a car, the bill of sale, an origination document, and a California temp tag. You must then get to the DMV without getting harassed by the highway patrol in order to register, and pay your taxes+fees.

I picked my Blue 85 up in Raleigh last Friday. Taylor said they were delivering 5 that day. I took the paperwork to DMV on Monday and no real issues after I realized that I needed two forms that Tesla had not provided. A NC title application and another - I think it was documenting my wife and I are NC residents and plan to drive the car in NC. I had already downloaded the title app and had my wife sign before getting it notarized at work. The second form I did not anticipate so the DMV lady gave me one and I pretended my wife was around the corner having lunch. Went out and sat in the car for a few minutes and signed both our names. That form does not require notarization. Went back inside, wrote a big check for highway use tax, title, and tag, and walked out with a new license plate. The DMV lady thought the vehicle was an RV, then wanted to see it after I explained it was little faster than an RV. All in all an easy process.

I saw your car at the service center. Beautiful. Congrats. Hopefully I'll get mine by this time next week. It's a Red 85

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm wondering if someone would be willing to share what the personal property tax on an S85 in Wake County is? I know that HUT is 3% and payable at the time of purchase. But the personal property tax data seems to be tightly held by each county for some reason. :)

Since we now also have to pay the annual personal property tax at the time of registration it would be nice to know what the total up-front tax bill will be.

The chart is linked off of here (I don't think 2104 is substantially changed from 2013): Tax Rates Fees
. It'll range from about 0.8% to 1.2% of the purchase price depending on the city / fire district. Apex worked out to just over 0.9% on my S85.
