Yep - having lived in the Bay Area for a few years about a decade ago, I also got those confused since I grew up in the South Bay of LA (shorthand for South Santa Monica Bay... mainly the cities of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance and the PV Peninsula).
