How much "gas" is USA saving?

It's hard separate this value out because the rising cost of gas has reduced the number of miles many folks drive their cars. In addition, the CAFE standards can be worked around by making flex-fuel cars which will add 5 mpg to the CAFE rating without actually doing anything.
 
I don't have any exact numbers for you but the executive summary at http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/mpg/fetrends/2012/420s12001a.pdf (found from Light-Duty Automotive Technology, Carbon Dioxide Emissions, and Fuel Economy Trends: 1975 Through 2011 | OTAQ | US EPA) on page 10 shows the trends in mileage (abysmal in 1975 when the program started, apparently in response to the Arab oil crisis) until now.
