Putting 0-60 in Perspective

Hi Everyone,

I made this 4 page document to try and give people a little perspective on just how fast the Model S is. Its one thing to say that the Model S faster than all these cars, but its something else to visualize it. The first five cars on the list are considered to be THE fasted production cars on the market, and are there to help set the bar for 0-60 times. The rest are exotic/super cars which compare to the Model S in 0-60 times... I think its funny that a 7 seater family sedan can meet, or beat, some of the fastest and most exotic cars in production today.

lol, good point. The Roadster Sport is roughly even with the McLaren @ 3.2s 0-60, isn't it?

Also, if you could add a few representative samples down to the non-perf Model S (not sure what the 1' roll-out 0-60 is for that) and maybe some notable examples that are slower than the non-perf Model S I think that would be cool.

I was going to suggest that you add the new exige-corvette frankencar but they don't give 0-60 times. What I don't quite get is the record was made doing 0-300 kph times but the other logged times were done doing 0-200 mph times ...

I'd put fuel economy in the mix, too, just to drive the point home.

and the Model S is way heavier than any of the cars above it... In fact, only the Bentley is heavier in that list.

Although the fastest car on the list, the Bugatti Veyron, runs a close 2nd with a curb weight of 4400 lbs. They overcome that with brute horsepower, hence the horrible mpg.

Decibels!

(I'm hoping someone will record a video of Model S against one of these monsters, with alternating camera shots from the cockpits--loud engines noises versus complete silence in the Model S. Would be a cool video!)

Hmm, which R8 are you quoting above? You also missed the GT-R which is faster, and I believe, still cheaper than the S.

I think all but the Model S are 2 (and 2+2 for the Bentley) Model S is 5+2.

Maybe an additional list that shows factory available (not aftermarket tuned) sedans, cost to drive 1,000 miles, mpg....etc would be nice too. People buying the Model S are likely to be comparing it to other sedans than the Veyron but it does show how impressive the Model S is against such sports cars.

Alexander - Great job! This comparison really shows what Tesla Motors has accomplished. Awesome performance at a price point that "equivalent performing" cars cannot match, with no gasoline.

veyron has a gas tank of 26.4 gallon * 3.6 mpg = 95 miles of range - thats 1/3 of Model S - who said veyron range anxiety !
