I received my Model S on Tuesday (Dec 11th 2012). Here is the timeline of events. It took 3 years and 11 steps to bliss but it was totally worth it. The journey was worth every bit. My kids and the geek in me loved the factory tours and drive events. I think many of you took the same journey too.

1. 12/5/09: Made reservation

2. Nearly forgot about Tesla for 2 years

3. 10/1/11: Factory Tour and Ride Event

Excellent story - makes me feel guilty for having waited only one year for mine.

(actually, no. I don't feel guilty at all :) ).

I am confused about payment ... I thought payment was done days before taking delivery?

In your case, I assume you went to the local Tesla store with a certified check?

I wired my funds just so I wouldn't have to think about money during the delivery, but my DS told me a regular personal check at the delivery would be fine, not even certified! And, for as of yet unknown reasons, I ended up overpaying by $1200, so I even got a refund check from Tesla :).

Great pics!

I think payment requirements varies by state i.e. Texas require payment in full before shipping. When the DS called, I just asked for a Purchase Agreement or Order as the bank needed it for the loan. The Purchase Agreement had the total payment amount including a breakdown of all items i.e. registration, taxes, delivery charges. With that, I got a certified check in the exact amount.
